THE REAL WORK OF RAISING A FAMILY 💯
Let's get real about what it takes to build a family founded on discipline, respect, and integrity. When a child screams because they have to do chores or throws a tantrum because they're held accountable, they aren't rejecting you. They're testing the very boundaries you've created out of love. We all know how tough it is in the moment, but that firmness is the foundation of their future. It's the difference between raising a child who can weather a storm and one who crumbles at the first sign of struggle.
I think about how many of us were raised—the punishments, the lessons, the tough love. We were taught that actions have consequences. So, when did it become normal to enable bad behavior? When did we start calling the teaching of morals and accountability "mean" instead of "necessary"? Back in our day, we got the switch, the branch, the belt, and the paddle; these days, you can't even say no.
We are doing our children a disservice by not preparing them for a world that won't make allowances for their emotions or choices.
If you truly care about a young person, you will stand tall and weather any storm they might throw your way. True love isn't easy; it's a relentless commitment to helping shape their future. They are children and don't know any better. You are the guiding light, and only you can get them ready for a world that pulls no punches.
And this isn't just about kids. The same energy it takes to stand firm with a frustrated child is what's needed to set boundaries with adults who bring nothing but drama. If your contribution to a household is negativity, gossip, and enabling unhealthy habits, please know that your struggles are yours. This home is a place for growth, not chaos. We're all imperfect, but those who are quick to judge others are often running from the reflection in their own mirror.
To any adult enabling a child by not setting clear, firm boundaries on discipline, respect, and responsibilities—you are literally going to be the reason that child fails miserably. This world is hard, and it's only getting harder. There are school shootings, stabbings, and robberies. The world is a hard, cruel place, and if we don't prepare them, their life is going to know nothing but pain. It's going to take all of those things I just mentioned to make sure they can navigate it effectively. So, stand tall for the ones who will usher in the next generation. Parenting isn't about always being their best friend; it's about making the tough choices and preparing them for a better future, even if they don't see all the love you are pouring into them at the moment. Let's all try to do better—we need to build a better world, and it starts with the children. Real love doesn't fold in the face of adversity; it thrives. I love all y'all.
