LOCAL: The 35th Annual Festival of Trees was a record year in overall fundraising for the Hereford Senior Citizens Association. The FOT raised more than $224,000 from activities and sales during the week-long event. As previously reported, the tree auction brought in $119,750 for the HSCA which was a record for the live auction.

Funeral services for Florina Ochoa San Miguel, age 83, are today at La Misión de San Jose at 10:00. She died on Friday in Hereford.

Funeral services for Edward Yavornik II, age 78, will be Friday morning at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Ed was a former longtime manager of the Hereford Country Club and is remembered as having a heart of gold. He died on Sunday, November 23rd.

Funeral services for Patricia “Pat” McCoy, age 74, are Saturday at 11:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Pat is remembered as an accomplished gardener and baker who had a great sense of humor. She was a longtime Hereford resident who died on Tuesday, November 25th.

KPAN recorded just .01 of an inch of precipitation from 1/8 inch of snow at 7:00 this morning. Warmer temps and low moisture chances are favored after this winter system departs today.

LOCAL: The filing deadline is Monday, December 8th, for candidates looking to run for a number of local elected positions in 2026. The offices and positions with terms expiring after the November general election include District Judge, District Attorney, District Clerk, County Judge, County Clerk, County Treasurer, Justice of the Peace, and Deaf Smith County Commissioner Precinct 2 and 4. The positions will be on primary ballots in March with party winners on Election Day ballots in November. Interested individuals can register with the Deaf Smith County Clerk at the courthouse.

Funeral services for Matilde Garcia, age 86, are today at 10:00 at La Misión de San Jose Catholic Church. Matilde was a longtime Hereford resident and is remembered as a loving family woman.

Funeral services for Florina Ochoa San Miguel, age 83, are tomorrow at La Misión de San Jose at 10:00. A Rosary is this evening at 6:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Florina was a longtime Hereford resident and homemaker. Her greatest love in life was her family. She died on Friday in Hereford.

Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be in Hereford for a the last of a two-day blood drive today. Donations can be given from 2:00-7:00 this afternoon at the Hereford Civic Center.

A winter weather system is set to impact the area late this afternoon through tomorrow afternoon. Convection-Allowing Models are predicting a band/or bands of 1-2” snowfall producers across the western Panhandle. Much of the area will see between a trace and half an inch.

LOCAL: Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Deaf Smith County Hospital District CEO, Candice Smith, to Texas’ Health Professions Workforce Coordinating Council yesterday. The council will study and develop a strategic approach for ensuring a thriving health care system and health professions workforce in the state. The term expires at the pleasure of the Governor.

The Deaf Smith County Grand Jury indicted 23 persons on felony charges on Thursday, November 20th. Charges included DWI with prior intoxication manslaughter, possession of a controlled substance, and robbery.

The Lady Herd Basketball Team is ranked #18 in the state according to the latest rankings issued yesterday by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Canyon is the only other district squad in the Top-20 currently at #1. Hereford will face Panhandle in an exhibition game on the road tonight.

Leslie was a Hereford resident since 2006 and volunteered at the Hereford Senior Center, the HSCA’s Meals on Wheels, the Hereford Food Pantry and Great Plains CASA. She died on Tuesday in Hereford.

Funeral services for Edward Yavornik II, age 78, are Friday morning at 10:00 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 on Thursday evening at Mendez and Mullins. Ed was a longtime Hereford resident and managed the Hereford Country Club from 1987 to 2016. Ed is remembered as a great cook and a great person with a heart of gold. He died on Sunday, November 23rd.

The 46th Christmas Stocking Fund begins taking donations today at FirstBank Southwest, 300 Main Street, in Hereford. The CSF has already been kickstarted with a $5,000 donation from Intersect Energy.

Funeral services for Celia Pena, age 55, are this morning at 10:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Celia was a Hereford resident since the early 90s. She’s remembered as a loving wife and mother. She died last Wednesday in Lubbock.

Funeral services for Jaetyn Madrigal, age 20, are Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Nazarene Family Church. Visitation is Friday from 2:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Jaetyn was a 2023 HHS graduate and worked at North Star Energy. He’s remembered for his gentle spirit and generous heart. He died on Sunday.

KPAN AM-FM will have live coverage of the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs tomorrow. The Thanksgiving Day game begins with pre-game action at 2:30 ahead of the 3:30 kickoff.

Very cold temps are slated to return this weekend when the Hereford area could see an overnight low near 15° on Saturday.

LOCAL: The 15th Annual Samaritan Hospice Dessert Auction and Brisket Dinner is tonight at 6:00 in the Lamar Room at King’s Manor. The evening will benefit the children’s funeral and hospice patient assistance programs at Samaritan Hospice. Individual tickets are still on sale today for $15 at Samaritan Hospice in Hereford. Raffle tickets are still available today at the office for $10 each and proceeds also benefit to the two assistance programs.

Funeral services are pending for Vickie Ortiz, age 76. Vickie was a longtime Hereford resident and was a proud homemaker. She’s remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Vickie died on Wednesday in Hereford.

LOCAL: The 35th Annual Festival of Trees will go down in the record books with a tree auction total of $119,750. The total blew through the previous record year of 2022 when $97,500 was raised during the live auction of decorated trees. The festival is the main fundraiser for the Hereford Senior Citizens Association.

The Panhandle Gives begins today and will last through Tuesday, December 2nd. The annual campaign benefits non-profit organizations across the Panhandle with additional funds available to match donations through the Amarillo Area Foundation’s Amplification Fund. Funeral services for Dickie “Dick” Fellers, age 85, are this morning at 10:00 at Schooler Funeral Home in Amarillo. Graveside services will take place at West Park Cemetery at 2:00 today. Mr. Fellers was a 1958 HHS graduate and longtime farmer. He died on Friday, November 14th.

Funeral services for Celia “Duby” Pena, age 55, are Wednesday at 10:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. Celia was a longtime Hereford resident who took great pride in being a wife and mother. Viewing and visitation is Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home.

KPAN recorded .37 of an inch of rain in downtown Hereford this morning. Since last Wednesday, .94 of an inch has fallen in the city. Fair weather is on-tap this holiday week ahead of possible winter-weather this weekend.
