Salgy triplets are making most of senior volleyball season

It is not entirely uncommon for a high school sports team to have twins on a team. Every so often there might even be three siblings.

What is far more unique is when a squad features triplets.

The Hermantown volleyball program is one such team this season. The Hawks have three Salgy’s on the roster. Cara, Caitlyn and Callie not only share the same birthday, each have played a vital role in Hermantown’s success this season.

The seniors played large in the Hawks 3-0 victory over Duluth Denfeld a couple weeks ago. While the Hunters gave them a battle at times, Caitlyn went on a scoring streak while serving late in the final game to earn the sweep.

Hermantown has enjoyed numerous straight-set victories in the early part of the season, including matches with Duluth Marshall, Proctor, Greenway and Hibbing. They also notched victories against Esko and Duluth East, both by scores of 3-2.

Recently, the Hawks hosted Rock Ridge for parent’s night, and notched another victory 3-1.

As the senior season slowly winds down for the Salgy triplets, the girls took a moment to reflect on what it has been like to play with their two sisters.

Cara said she has many fond memories of when they started playing volleyball together in the fourth grade.

“It's always been amazing since day one,” she stated. “We are each other's No. 1 supporters and have pushed and built each other up into the players we've become today. We have a connection with each other that is indescribable which has been helpful on and off the court.”

“Being able to play volleyball with both my sisters during my volleyball career has been nothing short of a dream,” Caitlyn added. “We have a great on-court connection and can depend on each other no matter what. We have always been able to push each other forward, whether it's in the heat of the game or during a scrimmaging right in our backyard.”

Callie said that since the beginning of her volleyball career, her sisters have helped her improve in many ways.

“Being able to play with each other has been such a cool and unique experience, it's hard to even describe,” she said.

Callie added that she can always rely on her sisters to support her by building confidence when needed.

“They are constantly pushing me to be better by giving me pointers to improve my playing,” Callie said. “I love getting to set for them because they are never nervous to tell me straight up if something needs to change.”

While having the sibling support is special, all three said they have equally enjoyed playing with their fellow Hawk teammates this fall.

Caitlyn is grateful to have incredible teammates and amazing coaching staff.

“Our team has found success because of our outstanding chemistry and incredible drive for victory,” she said.

Cara credits their success by playing as one unit.

“We have effortless chemistry which has proven prevalent in our victories,” Cara explained.

Callie agreed with her sisters, adding that the team has a very strong togetherness, and that they can always count on each other to pick up those who need it.

“We are made up of a bunch of girls who have outstanding work-ethic which has been prevalent since the beginning of our careers,” Callie said. “We all just genuinely enjoy hanging out and playing with each other, making this year very successful and even more enjoyable.”

As of right now, the Sagy triplets have no definitive plans to play volleyball at the next level. However, they agreed that if an opportunity presents itself, they may consider.

“It will always have a special place in my heart,” Callie said. “I may join some sort of club or sand court team just for fun, but I don't have any specific plans. In my older years, I could see myself wanting to play some sort of sand court league with my sisters.”

Caitlyn added that if an opportunity arises, she could see herself jumping at the chance. “Especially if there was a possibility of continuing the sport I love with my two closest friends whom I get to call my sisters,” she said.
