Do you have a crazy story of buying something cheap and it turns out being worth way more then you thought? In the doll world I see stories of thrifting Barbie’s and the buyer lucking out and finding a fab doll. What’s your story?

In 2007, a New York family bought a small ceramic bowl at a tag sale for $3. They kept it on a shelf for years, then had it appraised. Experts said it was a Northern Song dynasty piece about 1,000 years old and estimated it at $200,000–$300,000.

When the bowl went to Sotheby’s in 2013, a bidding war followed, and London dealer Giuseppe Eskenazi bought it for $2.225 million.

The story is a classic example of a yard-sale find turning into a museum-quality treasure.

We are excited for our 2nd Swellorama event at Gibsonville Antiques & Collectibles. We'll be sharing some treasures from our latest collection and offering up some items that are seldom seen. We'll have Vintage and contemporary Barbie, Vintage Dolls, American Girl Dolls, and more. Plan to come see us for this fun event.
