Andrew is Graduating!
Ms. Eva:
Our beloved baby “Andrewsaurus” isn’t going extinct—he’s just evolving into a young man who still rocks the strings in the youth orchestra! It’s hard to believe that our very own Yankee Doodle Dundee is graduating. I mean, this child has been with us since he was five… five!
Over the years, kids and even adults have watched him perform and exclaimed, “I wanna play the same piece that that little boy played!””—mostly because he made it look way too easy and sounded way too good for someone whose feet barely touched the floor, -or even the stool -and his hands were so tiny, but he played with passion and organized madness.
And now that he is taller than me, he’s marching off to his next adventure. Andrew, keep playing music! And if you ever can’t find the right piece, just write your own. We fully expect a magnum opus titled “Concerto for Electric Dinosaur and Orchestra in Rawr Major" preferably something with a ridiculous tempo marking so future kids can say, “He expects me to play what?”
We love you, Andrew, and the door is always open for you to return as an alumnus! Farewell and congrats!
This is from Andrew:
Ms. Eva has been with me from the very start, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. She has sparked my passion and love for music, and if not for her, I wouldn't have been able to do anything I can today and found so many great opportunities through music! Words cannot explain how grateful I am to have had Ms. Eva as a teacher. When I first started, and even right now I could be a pain in the butt to deal with, but even so, Ms. Eva has been patient with me and has never given up on me. From Yankee Doodle, to whatever I'm playing right now, she has been with me through it all, and I'm pretty sad that I have to leave her. I will always admire Ms. Eva, and hope she continues to teach, and inspire more kids!
From Minjung (Andrew's Mom):
It all began with our old IKEA bookcases. I posted them on Freecycle, and that’s how Ms. Eva came into our lives. Even though the bookcases were free, she generously offered piano lessons in return—and that’s how Andrew’s musical journey began back in 2017.
At the time, Andrew had just started kindergarten and knew nothing about music. Ms. Eva introduced him to the keyboard with the notes “C,” “D,” marking them with tiny animal figures: C for cat, D for dog. What truly kept Andrew going was Ms. Eva’s patience. In the first year, he could barely sit still for more than ten minutes. To keep him motivated, she would play song after song until he found the one that lit him up. She had endless creative tricks—jumping jacks, a “magic dragon egg,” and more—that turned every lesson into something lively and fun.
Now, thanks to her dedication, Andrew not only continues to play, but music has become a gift to our whole family. This past summer, during our trip to Japan and Korea, he joyfully played every public piano he came across—at airports, hotels, even at the beach. My hope was simply for Andrew to learn how to enjoy music, and Ms. Eva has given him something even greater: the love of music.
