The strongest Thanksgiving memory I have is the smell of sage, onions and celery cooking in rich butter. That smell filled the whole house. A fire in the fireplace. A light layer of snow outside. Hot cocoa warming my hands.

My uncles and cousins crowded in the living room telling the same deer hunting stories year after year. Long hours spent in the blind. Turnips and corn disappearing without catching sight of "the big one". The one that got away. The one that didn’t.

Football was always on. And if you grew up in Michigan you already know what that meant. The '90s Detroit Lions finding new creative ways to test everyone’s patience. We would still cheer. We would still hope. And we would still be let down by halftime, every single year. It was part of the tradition.

The rolls were always perfect. The turkey was fine too, maybe a little “well done” but in a way that became family folklore. You could count on it the same way you could count on snow and the Lions blowing a lead. It was all part of the day and honestly part of the charm.

Those holidays were simple and real. Nothing fancy. Just people who loved each other in the only ways they knew how.

I think about that a lot when I think about gratitude. It’s rarely loud. It’s rarely perfect. It usually shows up in small ways that you don’t fully notice until later.

This year I feel thankful for the people who let me be part of their story. Every client, every question, every showing, every long day that turned into something meaningful. Thank you for trusting me with your home search and your hopes for the next chapter. It matters to me more than you know.

I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with warmth and good food and familiar stories that make you smile. And I hope you get a moment that sticks with you the way those old Michigan Thanksgivings still stick with me . . . twenty five years later.
