"Night Rock" was a vintage radio show rooted in deep cuts and forgotten favorites and anchored by celebrity interviews by show host Tom Lounges. "Night Rock" was originated in the late 1970s and a revised version of the venerable program had aired for 9 consecutive years on Northwest Indiana station -- WXRD / X-ROCK 103.9FM -- until it ended in May of 2012. Lounges has since taken the celebrity/musician interview segments that were a major part of the "Night Rock" program and created a new program called "MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges" that has been broadcast weekly since December 2012 every Tuesday evening (7pm CST) on 89.1FM-Lakeshore Public Radio. Many fans of "Night Rock" have continued to follow Tom Lounges to his new home on the dial, where they now hear new interviews with many of the same kind of major music stars once featured on "Night Rock," artists like -- Charlie Daniels, Paul Rodgers, Jim Peterik, Roger Taylor (Queen), Rod Argent, Justin Hayward, Ian Anderson, and dozens more. TONIGHT'S SHOW: "Tom's TOP 10 Regional Albums of 2025"

This edition of "Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges" features a countdown of the annual "Tom's Top 10 Regional Albums" list for the year 2025 as published this week in THE TIMES daily newspaper.

Tom Lounges has been THE TIMES music columnist now for 44 years and for the last 21 years has had an annual tradition of picking his personal favorites from the many albums submitted to him each year from local/regional artists and record labels.

As has been tradition for the past 13 years, the week of that "TOP 10" list publishing in The Times, Tom gives his readers/listeners a chance to sample those albums by talking briefly about each artist/album and then spotlighting a single song from each album on the list.

It's just one more way Tom tries to support and expose the great local music created here in Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.

"MIDWEST BEAT BLUES with Tom Lounges"

This week's program opens up with some brand new tracks from such artists as TINSELY ELLIS, WILLIE NELSON, CHARLIE MUSSLEWHITE and TOMMY CASTRO & THE PAINKILLERS.

Host Lounges put together a set of blues tunes about the topic of telephones that includes songs by TRUDY LYNN, MOJO DADDY and DAVE HOLE among others.

Later the listeners will hear some time-honored classic songs reinvented over the years by the likes of BUDDY GUY, PAUL RODGERS, THE ROLLING STONES and CLARENCE "GATEMOUTH" BROWN.

The second hour of the show is steeped in killer guitar blues that begins with a double shot of B.B. KING teaming-up with two other legendary guitar slingers. What follows is some impressive and rarely heard tracks by iconic axe men as ROBIN TROWER, PAT TRAVERS, ALVIN LEE and DUKE ROBILLARD.
