If you live in Highland Township, your library card is free and gives you access to everything the library has to offer. Simply bring your current ID and proof of Highland Township residency (a driver's license with your current address is fine) to our circulation desk. You'll have a card in a few minutes.

Planning to cross the Mackinac Bridge this Labor Day?

A reminder that on Monday, Sept. 1, the Mackinac Bridge will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to noon for the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk. This popular Michigan tradition draws thousands of participants and offers a one-of-a-kind walk across one of the state’s most iconic landmarks.

Good news: The walk is free and no registration is required. Just show up and enjoy the experience.

If you’ll be in the area during the closure and looking for other ways to spend your morning, consider visiting nearby Michigan state parks. Here are a few options:

✅ Straits State Park in St. Ignace offers scenic views of the bridge, hiking trails and picnic areas.

✅ Mill Creek Discovery Park, south of Mackinaw City, features interactive exhibits, hiking and nature trails.

You can also explore the new RecSearch website to find nearby activities. With location-based tools and filters, it's easy to discover outdoor options that match your interests.

Have you ever tried Siegel's Deli in Commerce Township? I had the breakfast burrito but asked for the hash browns (included inside the burritos) on the side. I thought it was really good. I would live to try their corned beef sandwich. It seemed like a popular place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

🦋Good Tuesday Morning Highlanders!!

🦋Here at HQ we are practically floating with excitement for this weekends Monarch Festival at the Market and we have some very exciting news to share!’

🦋Thanks to an incredibly generous donation from Feldman Chevrolet of Highland, we will not only have monarch butterflies to release at 11 am and 1pm but we will ALSO have a limited amount of butterflies that YOU can adopt at the festival and release from your own hands.

🦋To “adopt” a monarch butterfly, all you need to do is come visit the Highland Tent this weekend at the farmers market. Each butterfly adoption is 10.00, (cash only please!) and the funds raised from this year go directly towards next years Monarch Festival!

🦋Whether you’re looking to honor someone’s memory, or simply take part in a beautiful opportunity to release a butterfly into our community, we hope that you’ll consider adopting a monarch to release with us on Saturday!
