Be aware of your local fireworks schedules!

💥bring outdoor pets inside (even a garage...with fans, radios, and something to do like a chew toy)

💥close window curtains; secure doors and windows; leave on fans, radios, or TV to drown out outside noises; give them something to do (chewing and licking are great stress relieving activities! Bully sticks, Beef Cheek rolls, Kong or WEST PAW stuffed toys, Licki Mats, etc.)

💥update ID and microchip information to make sure it is current.

💥if your dog or cat is extremely fearful, talk to your vet about medically appropriate and safe ways to help sedate them.

💥DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG TO FIREWORK DISPLAYS! Not only is it crowded and hot, but they can not escape the loud noises.

The Fourth of July is coming! Start preparing your dog NOW!

🎆 Check to make sure your dog is wearing a collar with CURRENT identification.
🎆 Find puzzle toys your dogs like to keep them busy (we LOVE WEST PAW !!!)
🎆 Know fireworks don't end on the Fourth. Make sure you take extra care the rest of the summer.
🎆 Watch video ⬇️ for additional tips to prepare your dog's environment.

Every year shelters are bombarded with stray dogs. And those are the lucky ones - some never make it home. Don't be a statistic. Keep your dogs safe!

Cooperative care. Something I knew very very little about until recently. Imagine being in a foreign country, injured, and scared. You don't understand what is happening to you and you get strapped to a bed, all control taken from you. That's what a muzzle CAN be like.

Or, you can introduce it to your dog in a positive way. They see it as something they wear like a collar or harness. So if something happens where one is required, the muzzle is not adding to the stress.

Today is day 1 of muzzle training with Hosley! I got the muzzle and a bag of his favorite treats. I put the muzzle on the ground and let him explore it. Everytime he got near is I tossed a cookie at it. He thinks this thing is a magic chicken dispenser! That's it for today. Simple, 5 minute session where he learned the muzzle is an amazing thing.

Today is National Specially-abled Pets Day! Our motto for our rescue says quite clearly how we feel on this subject: We see possibilities not disabilities! We know that being born a little different doesn’t keep these animals from doing anything! We’ve seen time and time again how resilient and amazing Speak! animals can be!
