The Donnellson Village Board convened on Monday, August 10, at 7 p.m., at village hall. Mayor Randy Stewart, Treasurer and Clerk Ashley Weder and Trustees Virginia Kenny, Marcie Volentine, Kenneth Brumberlow, Caleb Daniken, Mike McCario and Gary Long were present.Water Superintendent Bill Grider and Assistant Police Chief Dakota Dickenson were also present. Not present at the meeting were Water Clerk Rachel Beckett, Police Chief Hunter Lentz, legal counsel, John Hanson and Mitch Hardiek of Milano and Grunloh.

As the Hillsboro Area Public Library prepares to host the Looking for Lincoln “Journey to Freedom: Illinois’ Underground Railroad” exhibit, work has begun on a painted mural for the library’s window. The mural, painted by Hillsboro Economic Development and Community Planner Melissa Smith, will feature lanterns, a night sky and silhouettes representing people escaping to the Union upon completion. The exhibit will be open from Aug. 5 through Sept. 2, during regular hours in the lower level of the library.

The Montgomery County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) met on Friday, July 10, in Hillsboro Health’s Cloud Room. Those in attendance included Lacey Cyprian from HSHS St. Francis Hospital, Darin Beckman from MABAS-IL, Doug Downey from IEMA, Lynn Laurens from Litchfield Health and Rehab, Mandy Sebeschak from Hillsboro Health, Lora Scott from the Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation District, David Beal of Hillsboro, John Casterline from the Village of Fillmore and Darryl Edwards, Doug White, Kayla Fath, Dan Hough and Mark Lewis, all of Montgomery County EMA.

Join Rapunzel from Brittain’s Princess Parties for a free story time in Litchfield on Saturday, August 22, from 9 to 10 a.m. Rapunzel will be available for free meet and greets, photos and will sign autographs after the story.
Story time will take place outdoors on the lawn of Carnegie Park, located at 400 N. State St. in Litchfield. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs for seating.

A free concert, “Songs of the Illinois Freedom Road,” will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Free Methodist Church, located at 1400 Seymour Ave. in Hillsboro.
The event is in conjunction with the Underground Railroad Exhibit at Hillsboro Area Public Library, which continues until Sept. 3. The concert is co-sponsored by Friends of the Library and the Historical Society of Montgomery County.

The Litchfield Student Education Foundation (LSEF) is excited to host Pedal with the Panthers on Saturday, Sept. 12. Check in will begin at the Litchfield Community Center, located at 1100 S. State St., in Litchfield, at 6 p.m. Pedaling will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
This family-friendly event will feature a six mile course, beginning and ending at the Litchfield Community Center. The course will be well-lit and monitored by the Litchfield Police Department.

Family and friends of Mrs. Betty (Pope) Bandor are hosting a card shower this summer in honor of her 100th birthday on Aug. 23.
Mrs. Bandor was born on Aug. 23, 1926, and has been a lifelong resident of Hillsboro.
Mrs. Bandor was married to Bill Bandor of Hillsboro, who passed away in December 2012. The couple have two children, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

On Wednesday, August 19, a TASC+ Hangout will occur at Black Rabbit from 6 to 7:30 p.m. TASC+ nights are only open to individuals with autism and related neurodivergences ages 14 and up.
On Saturday, August 22, an open gym will be held at Hilltop Elite Academy of Tumbling and Trampoline from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Litchfield Municipal Airport will once again be hosting the Route 66 RC Jet Rally from Thursday, Sept. 10 through Sunday, Sept. 13. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the airport, which is located at 1201 U.S. Route 66 South in Litchfield.
The 2026 Route 66 Radio Controlled Jet Rally in Litchfield will feature remote controlled turbine and EDF jet airplanes, including scale military jets and high-performance sport jets.
