And just like that, two more songs, including another scripture song, were started and completed Tuesday and Thursday nights. It's crazy how quickly things can come together sometimes.

Some days when you crack that bible open, certain scriptures just jump out at you, making you think, "There's a song in there." I've written three new scripture songs and a couple of other new songs songs just in the last few weeks. I also finished one I started a couple of years ago. The creative juices have really been flowing!

The scripture songs are from Philippians 4:4, Philippians 4:12-13 and Revelation 5:13.

Just a reminder... The MP3s on my website are in piano (midi), so pull up the sheet music along with the MP3. It would take a lot of time, effort and money to get a couple hundred songs recorded with voices, unfortunately.

It's always a nice surprise when I receive notice that some of my sheet music has sold! Four songs this time from someone in Montserrat! Always cool to see international sales!

I recently arranged a song at someone's request, called "I Am The Bread Of Life". It's a 1966 song, popular in Catholic circles. All I had was the melody so I created the alto, tenor and bass to complete the 4-part a ca****la arrangement. It's a great song for communion. Our non-Catholic congregation has sung it twice this summer. I'm happy to pass along the slides and mp3 if requested.

Although this may be the worst Christmas season I've ever had, it's still my favorite holiday. I don't recommend having joint surgery just before Christmas. Aside from pain, I've also had to re-learn that people will disappoint and hurt you, but forgiveness must be given to move on - even if it still stings. Like many, I remember Christmases past when loved ones were still with us. I encourage you to never forget them and, more importantly, never forget why we celebrate this season - Jesus, the greatest gift we've been given. Merry Christmas to you all.

This Season

May this season bring you hope and joy
As you celebrate this baby boy
Don't forget the reason for his birth
To become the Savior of the earth

May this season bring you love and cheer
As you give your gifts to loved ones dear
Don't forget the greatest gift of all
Lying in a manger in the stall

May this season bring your memories near
Of the ones who are no longer here
May you look back with a smile and tear
And remember Jesus holds them near

May this season bring you happiness
May it fill your heart with thankfulness
Don't forget the One who makes it so
He's the One from whom all blessings flow

May this season bring the love of Jesus in your heart

Last week I sold 10 copies of a scripture song called "Truly". It's from Jeremiah 17:14.

This summer, our church had a unique theme of hearing God's word told through stories of trees. Our theme scripture was Psalm 13. I had already written a song with a similar sentiment from Jeremiah 17:7-8, called "They Are Like Trees". With our theme in mind, I composed a new song called "God Of The Trees". We sang both songs throughout June and July. It was an honor, but also very humbling. Below are the lyrics to the latter song...

Plant us by Your living waters
Let us drink and thirst no more
Let our roots grow and never falter
Give us strength, we pray, O Lord

Like the tiniest mustard seeds
Let us grow into mighty trees
We'll reflect Your almighty hand
As we witness throughout the land

O God of the trees
Let us be fruitful, let us be fruitful
O God of the trees
Let us be useful, let us be useful to Thee

Like the cedars of Lebanon
Help us faithfully to be strong
Use us to build Your kingdom here
Use us to bring the lost ones near

Let our branches and let our leaves
Be a shelter from rain and heat
With compassion, be merciful
To the struggling, weary soul

O God of the trees
Let us be fruitful, let us be fruitful
O God of the trees
Let us be useful, let us be useful to Thee

Scatter our seeds by Your holy wind
Let them fall onto fertile ground
Use our good deeds and the love we send
So that more trees may abound
So that more trees may abound

O God of the trees
Let us be fruitful, let us be fruitful
O God of the trees
Let us be useful, let us be useful to Thee
