Although this may be the worst Christmas season I've ever had, it's still my favorite holiday. I don't recommend having joint surgery just before Christmas. Aside from pain, I've also had to re-learn that people will disappoint and hurt you, but forgiveness must be given to move on - even if it still stings. Like many, I remember Christmases past when loved ones were still with us. I encourage you to never forget them and, more importantly, never forget why we celebrate this season - Jesus, the greatest gift we've been given. Merry Christmas to you all.

This Season

May this season bring you hope and joy
As you celebrate this baby boy
Don't forget the reason for his birth
To become the Savior of the earth

May this season bring you love and cheer
As you give your gifts to loved ones dear
Don't forget the greatest gift of all
Lying in a manger in the stall

May this season bring your memories near
Of the ones who are no longer here
May you look back with a smile and tear
And remember Jesus holds them near

May this season bring you happiness
May it fill your heart with thankfulness
Don't forget the One who makes it so
He's the One from whom all blessings flow

May this season bring the love of Jesus in your heart

Our church members were asked to write onto "leaves" ways they have seen God working. Some sweet person wrote this one. (See previous post, as well.)

This summer, our church had a unique theme of hearing God's word told through stories of trees. Our theme scripture was Psalm 13. I had already written a song with a similar sentiment from Jeremiah 17:7-8, called "They Are Like Trees". With our theme in mind, I composed a new song called "God Of The Trees". We sang both songs throughout June and July. It was an honor, but also very humbling. Below are the lyrics to the latter song...

Plant us by Your living waters
Let us drink and thirst no more
Let our roots grow and never falter
Give us strength, we pray, O Lord

Like the tiniest mustard seeds
Let us grow into mighty trees
We'll reflect Your almighty hand
As we witness throughout the land

O God of the trees
Let us be fruitful, let us be fruitful
O God of the trees
Let us be useful, let us be useful to Thee

Like the cedars of Lebanon
Help us faithfully to be strong
Use us to build Your kingdom here
Use us to bring the lost ones near

Let our branches and let our leaves
Be a shelter from rain and heat
With compassion, be merciful
To the struggling, weary soul

O God of the trees
Let us be fruitful, let us be fruitful
O God of the trees
Let us be useful, let us be useful to Thee

Scatter our seeds by Your holy wind
Let them fall onto fertile ground
Use our good deeds and the love we send
So that more trees may abound
So that more trees may abound

O God of the trees
Let us be fruitful, let us be fruitful
O God of the trees
Let us be useful, let us be useful to Thee

This is a song we sang quite a bit back in Lincoln, NE. I especially love the words of the chorus. Only God can take a heart of stone and turn it back into clay.

HEART OF STONE

O Lord, you've touched my heart
And you have shown me where I'm wrong
Sometimes I lose my focus
I was weak when I thought I was strong
You're giving me forgiveness
All I have to do is call
To receive Your powerful healing
That can tear down these walls

So take this heart of stone
Turn it back into clay
Soften and mold it, Lord
Reshape it today
Make it a vessel
To hold Your will
Let love and compassion overfill

You opened up my eyes
So I can see more than me
You helped me realize
There is so much more I can be
O Lord, I need forgiveness
For the things that I have done
Teach me how to be a servant
Like Jesus Christ, Your Son

So take this heart of stone
Turn it back into clay
Soften and mold it, Lord
Reshape it today
Make it a vessel
To hold Your will
Let love and compassion overfill

I kneel before You
My head bowed down in shame
Change my life, dear Father
I don't want to be the same

So take this heart of stone
Turn it back into clay
Soften and mold it, Lord
Reshape it today
Make it a vessel
To hold Your will
Let love and compassion overfill

"Wouldn't You Agree?"

When Jesus prayed in Gethsemane,
He was crying out in agony.
He said to the Father, "Your will, not mine."

Wasn't that love?
Wouldn't You agree?

When Jesus looked down from the cross,
He prayed to the Father for the lost.
"Forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Wasn't that love?
Wouldn't you agree?

With outstretched arms, hands nailed to a tree,
A living sacrifice, the Lamb of God, was He.
The Father turned His face, as His Son bore our sins.
A Savior's sacrifice is where redemption begins.

Wasn't that love?
Wouldn't you agree?

When Jesus returns to us someday,
Won't it be a joy to hear Him say,
"The Father has sent me to take you home!"

Isn't that love?
Wouldn't you agree?

With outstretched arms, hands scarred by the nails,
The holy Son of God with angelic trails;
The clouds will be rolled back as the trumpets resound,
And all in Christ shall rise because we're heavenward bound!

Isn't that love?
Wouldn't you agree?
Isn't that love?
Wouldn't you agree?

"On That Cross"

His hands were pierced, His body bled.
All for my sins His blood was shed
On that cross, on that cross.
Through so much pain and agony,
He never lost His love for me
on that cross, on that cross.

Precious Lamb of God.
Holy Lamb of God.
Perfect Lamb of God.
Jesus, the Lamb of God.

The Son of God left heaven's pride.
The Lion of Judah crucified
On that cross, on that cross.
Because He died for you and me,
He's won for us the victory!
On that cross, on that cross.

Precious Lamb of God.
Holy Lamb of God.
Perfect Lamb of God.
Jesus, the Lamb of God.

He was pierced for our transgressions,
Crushed for our iniquity.
Though our sins were revealed,
By His wounds we are healed.
He took on our infirmities
On that cross, on that cross.

We eat the bread, we drink the cup,
Reminding us of perfect love
On that cross, on that cross.

Precious Lamb of God.
Holy Lamb of God.
Perfect Lamb of God.
Jesus, the Lamb of God.

"Mercy and Grace"

As Your Son looked down from on the cross,
He beheld the sinful, dying, lost.
He lifted His weary eyes to You,
"Forgive them for they know not what they do."

Mercy, mercy and grace,
Handed down to each face;
Forgiveness, powerful love,
That only comes from the Father above.

Lord, we can't comprehend
Such a love without end.
Jesus died on the cross.
It should have been our blood,
Not Your Son's crimson flood.
We were the ones who were lost.

Now we stand together for the cause,
For we all were sinful, dying, lost.
But You gave us mercy, love and grace.
Now we see Jesus on every face.

Mercy, mercy and grace,
Handed down to each face;
Forgiveness, powerful love,
That only comes from the Father above.

Lord, we cannot express
All of our thankfulness
For Your powerful love.
We're undeserving,
But we'll keep on serving
Until we reach heaven above.

Mercy, mercy and grace,
Handed down to each face;
Forgiveness, powerful love,
That only comes from the Father above.

"Between Two Thieves"

Guiltless, perfect, unblemished and pure,
Yet crucifixion, He would endure.
He did nothing to deserve that fate;
Death at the hands He helped to create.

Between two thieves hung an innocent man.
King of the Jews, God's precious Lamb.
Nailed to a tree, the great I AM.
Innocent blood was shed for guilty man.
Between two thieves hung an innocent man.

Many crosses should dot that hill,
With our names on them and our blood spilled.
But only one that stood between,
Was all God needed to make us clean.

Between two thieves hung an innocent man.
King of the Jews, God's precious Lamb.
Nailed to a tree, the great I AM.
Innocent blood was shed for guilty man.
Between two thieves hung an innocent man.

Remember, you can download sheet music for free (donation is optional) from my website under the "Music" tab. Another reminder, the MP3s (also under "Music" tab) are directly from the sheet music scoring software. I don't have the means to make quality vocal recordings, especially for so many songs. Let me know if anything on the website doesn't work. It happens! Blessings to you on this Easter weekend.
