📍 Lonesome Lake Hut, White Mountains NH 🏔️
To the lake and the sky ✨ If you’ve ever wanted to experience an off-grid mountain hut, this is a good place to start! The Appalachian Mountain Club’s Lonesome Lake Hut is too cute and only 1.2 miles to get to (though it’s steep).

Here are some quick logistics:
🧭 Getting There: The hike up from the Lafayette Place Campground parking lot is short but a steady, rocky climb (1.2 miles, approx. 1,000 ft elevation gain).
🎒 What to pack: sleeping bag, camp pillow, snacks, clothing, headlamp, portable charger and your other necessities for an overnight
🛖 The Hut: It’s full-service in the summer/fall, meaning there’s dinner and breakfast (included in your stay). There’s bathrooms with composting toilets and running water and a place to fill your bottles/bladders.
🛌 The sleep situation: Co-ed bunkhouses! Bring earplugs.
🥾 Hike more: If you use the hut as a basecamp like we did, you can summit North and South Kinsman (both official NH 4,000 footers). It’s a rugged, challenging 7+ mile day-hike from the hut. There’s also Cannon nearby too.
🪰 The Bugs: It was BUGGY up there. Bring a head net!
🌟 The Hike Safe card: basically your wilderness insurance, if something goes wrong and you need rescued this exempts you form the cost.
🥞 The vibe: It’s like summer camp for adults (and kids) in the woods (complete with a legendary crew and fresh-baked goodies). So fun, family friendly, great sunsets (if the weather is good to you), fun conversation, books/games and more.
