One of the first local celebrations to mark the United States’ 250th birthday took place Saturday with a parade through downtown Hinesville.

Morris Multimedia has named Pat Donahue regional executive editor for its Southeast Georgia group, where he will oversee newsroom operations and editorial direction across the company’s five community newspapers serving Bulloch, Bryan, Effingham, Liberty and Tattnall counties.

Board members, in a 3-1 vote, approved the tentative budget for the coming fiscal year, which starts July 1. The budget calls for $160.7 million in expenditures and $156.2 million in revenues. That gap of nearly $4.45 million will made up through the school system’s fund balance.

The 26th annual Walk to Dorchester hits the pavement Saturday morning. The walk begins at 6 a.m. at Briar Bay Park and participants retrace the steps Black students took to walk from their homes in the Riceboro area to attend the Dorchester Academy.
