Highway 144 has reopened according to Fort Stewart officials.

If you travel on 144 on Fort Stewart towards Richmond Hill the Rodeway is closed due to an accident involving a two vehicles according to GSP Trooper David Laff . Laff said a tractor trailer which was stopped at a construction site on the roadway was rear ended by a box truck. The passenger in the box truck was transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah in serious condition. They have closed the gates leading to the post in Richmond Hill coming into the base. Traffic is blocked off at the intersection of 144 and Sunbury road.

Update: According to HPD Capt. Franklin Gallop, the man the crime suppression unit was arrested without incident. He is also facing an obstruction charge as well as the theft charge.

Correction made to story, the theft is classified as a felony theft.

Hinesville Crime Suppression Unit Seeking Man Involved In Theft.

Members of the Hinesville police department Suppression Unit are in the process of seeking a man wanted in connection with a theft earlier this week.

According to the Hinesville police department the suspect was spotted on Sandy Run road shortly after 4:30 pm and fled from police officers. The man is wanted for felony theft. Officers have tracked him down to a residence near Sandy Run road and are currently awaiting for a warrant to be issued to enter the residence. Authorities said there is no danger to the public.

Hinesville police investigating after shots fired in Walmart parking lot

Police are investigating after gunfire broke out in the parking lot of a Hinesville Walmart Supercenter Monday night.

Gunfire rings out in Hinesville parking lot.

Gunfire rang out Monday night in the parking lot of Walmart on the 700 block of West Oglethorpe highway.

According to Hinesville Police Department Lt. Johnathan Greer shots were fired shortly after 8:30 pm.

A vehicle driven by a woman was hit 5 times one shattering the rear window. A bullet also went through an emergency exit lodging into the wall.

No one was injured in the shooting and it remains currently under investigation.

Recently the Liberty county historical society held a celebration honoring the 178 birthday of Susie King Taylor at the park named after her in Midway.
