Monrovia-Liberia:
SPECIAL ADDRESS BY
HIS EXCELLENCY JOSEPH NYUMA BOAKAI, SR.
President of the Republic of Liberia
On the Fight Against Illicit Drug Trafficking in the Country

Wednesday, August 26, 2026

MY FELLOW LIBERIANS:
I come to you this evening to reaffirm a solemn commitment: this Administration will enforce the law without fear or favor while protecting the constitutional rights of every person.

Over the past several days, developments in our country have sparked public discussion, concern, and, in some cases, misinformation. As President, I believe it is my duty to speak directly to you, offer reassurance, and make clear that justice must be pursued firmly, fairly, and independently.

When you entrusted me with the leadership of this country, you did so with a clear expectation: that I would uphold the Constitution, govern with integrity, strengthen our institutions, and ensure that no one is above the law.

Liberia faces serious challenges, but we are making deliberate progress through the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. Yet none of our work in the economy, education, infrastructure, or public institutions can succeed unless it is anchored in onefundamental principle: THE RULE OF LAW.

One of the greatest threats facing our nation is the growing menace of illicit drugs and organized crime. Drugs are destroying young lives, weakening families, fueling violence, and threatening our country's future. Let me re-echo here that this is not simply a law enforcement issue; it is a national security and moral issue.

Consistent with our pledge, my Administration has intensified the fight against narcotics trafficking, money laundering, and organized crime. Our security institutions have been directed to act professionally, independently, and without fear or favor, working with national and international partners to prevent Liberia from becoming a transit point for illegal drugs or a safe haven for criminal networks.

Let me be clear: this campaign is deliberate, coordinated, and unrelenting. It is intended to defend the Liberian people, protect the Liberian character, and safeguard our nation's future.

This national campaign against drugs and organized crime is not directed at any individual, party, or political movement; it is directed at conduct that threatens the safety, stability, and future of Liberia.
In recent days, the arrest and detention of former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor has understandably drawn national and international attention.

I assure every Liberian, our regional neighbors, and our international partners that former Vice President Taylor is being treated in full compliance with the Constitution and laws of Liberia. She is presumed innocent, has access to legal counsel, and is entitled to due process, which will be upheld.

The former Vice President has been arrested and charged in accordance with our legal procedures. It is not the President's role to determine guilt or innocence. That responsibility belongs to our independent justice system.
Our democracy will be measured not by how we treat those with whom we agree, but by how faithfully we uphold the rights of every person who comes before the law.

To those who have expressed concern, I say this: your concern is legitimate in a democracy, but guilt or innocence must be determined by the courts, not by politics, rumor, conjecture, or public pressure.

My Administration will neither persecute nor shield anyone because of political affiliation, office, status, or influence. Whether one has held high office, served in government, led a business, or lived as an ordinary citizen, the law must apply equally to all.

I commend the men and women of our Joint Security for their professionalism, courage, and devotion to duty. Despite pressure and attempts at intimidation, and calculated misinformation, they must remain steadfast, impartial, and respectful of the rights and dignity of all citizens.

This fight cannot be won by government alone. I ask parents, communities, schools, religious institutions, traditional leaders, and young people to reject misinformation, support prevention, report criminal activity through lawful channels, and allow due process to proceed.

I call on political and religious leaders, civil society, and public commentators to act responsibly. Differences of opinion are healthy in a democracy, but we must reject words and actions that incite violence, undermine institutions, or seek to intimidate those enforcing our laws.

Liberia has come too far to revert to a culture in which justice is swayed by fear, power, or political pressure. Our nation has endured conflict, hardship, and division, yet we have shown resilience and commitment to peace. Let us preserve that peace by upholding theConstitution and strengthening the institutions that safeguard our democracy.

As your President, I assure you that this Government remains committed to justice, fairness, accountability, and peace. We will govern without fear or favor, protect every citizen's rights, and build a Liberia where peace is preserved, justice is impartial, and accountability applies equally to all.

May God continue to bless you, preserve our peace, and save our republic.
Thank you.

From the AfriLensTV family, we want to wish ALL Liberians both home and abroad a happy Flag Day. Today marks the 179th anniversary of the Liberian national symbol, the Liberian flag.

Before we go, let's take a look at the history behind the Liberian flag in brief.

The Liberian flag 🇱🇷 is more than just a national symbol—it tells an important part of Liberia’s history and reflects the country’s unique connection with the United States.

On July 26, 1847, Liberia declared its independence and adopted its first national flag. The design was influenced by the American flag, reflecting the historical connection between Liberia and formerly enslaved African Americans who settled in the country with the involvement of the American Colonization Society.

Liberia’s current flag has 11 alternating red and white stripes, representing the 11 signers of the Declaration of Independence. The red and white colors are commonly associated with courage and moral excellence.
In the upper-left corner is a blue square with a single white star. The star is a symbol of Liberia’s independence and its historic position as Africa’s first independent republic.

In simple terms: 🇱🇷 Liberia's flag is called the “Lone Star” because it has one—and only one—white star. That star came to represent Liberia's independence and unique place in African history.

The story behind “The Lone Star” is basically Liberia saying:
“We are one nation, standing on our own.”

The American flag had many stars representing many states. Liberia's designers took a different approach: one big white star.

That single star became a powerful symbol of a new African republic declaring its independence in 1847. It wasn't just decoration—it represented Liberia's sovereignty, freedom, and distinct identity.

Today, whenever the Liberian flag is raised, it represents much more than a country. It stands for freedom, independence, unity, courage, national pride, and the remarkable history of the Liberian people.

The flag, as history tell, was proudly made by seven Liberian women.
1. Susannah Elizabeth Lewis (Chairwoman)
2. Matilda Newport
3. Rachel Johnson
4. Mary Hunter
5. Sarah McGill Russwurm (Mrs. J.B. Russwurm)
6. Colonette Teage Ellis and
7. Sara Draper.

In simple words, the Liberian flag is a symbol of where Liberia came from, what it fought for, and the pride of being Liberian.

🚨🔥 BOAKAI SHAKES UP LIBERIA’S DRUG WAR — RETIRED GENERAL ZIANKAHN TAKES THE LDEA HELM! 🇱🇷

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — Liberia’s fight against drug trafficking is entering a new chapter.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has appointed retired Major General Daniel Dee Ziankahn, Jr. as Director General of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

But the work starts now.

The new leadership has been instructed to begin immediately in an acting capacity as the government moves to strengthen its response to drug trafficking and organized crime.

🎖️ WHO IS GENERAL ZIANKAHN?

This is not Ziankahn’s first major national security assignment.

He previously served as:

🔹 Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia
🔹 Minister of National Defense
🔹 Military Advisor to President Boakai

Now, he takes charge of the LDEA at a time when the government says the drug trade represents a serious threat to Liberia’s national security, public health and future.

🔥 A NEW TEAM, A NEW MISSION

President Boakai also appointed:

➡️ Precious Rue — Deputy Director General for Operations
➡️ Prince Mulbah — Deputy Director General for Administration

The new leadership is expected to work closely with Liberia’s Joint Security, the Ministry of Justice and international partners to:

🚔 Dismantle drug-trafficking networks
🛃 Strengthen border security
🕵️ Improve intelligence operations
⚖️ Support stronger enforcement against narcotics trafficking

⚠️ BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO FITZGERALD BIAGO?

Former LDEA Officer-in-Charge Fitzgerald T. M. Biago has been indefinitely suspended from the Liberia National Police and ordered to face further investigation over ethical concerns.

However, there is an important distinction.

👉 The Ministry of Justice’s report did not establish that Biago was involved in illegal narcotics trafficking.

The President’s review, however, identified ethical concerns that warranted further scrutiny.

That means the investigation — not speculation — will have to determine what happened.

🇱🇷 BOAKAI’S MESSAGE IS CLEAR

Following a marathon National Security Council meeting, President Boakai delivered a strong warning:

«“Our fight against drugs is a fight for the future of Liberia.”»

And he went further:

«“There will be no safe haven for drug traffickers or those who aid and abet them.”»

🔥 NEW LEADERSHIP. NEW DIRECTION. HIGHER EXPECTATIONS.

With General Daniel Ziankahn now positioned to lead the LDEA, Liberia could be entering one of the most consequential phases of its anti-drug campaign.

But one question remains:

👇 Do you believe retired General Daniel Ziankahn is the right person to lead Liberia’s war against drugs?

Let’s hear your opinion.

LDEA Boss Seeks Temporary Recusal Over Alleged Vehicle Gift.

MONROVIA, Liberia — August 8, 2026: The Officer-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), DCP Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, has asked to temporarily step aside from his duties while an investigation continues into allegations that he received a Toyota pickup vehicle from a person believed to be linked to a drug-trafficking network.

In a letter dated August 8, 2026 and addressed to Justice Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, Biago strongly denied the allegation, saying he has never solicited or knowingly accepted any gift, benefit, or inducement from a drug trafficker or anyone acting on their behalf.
He said his decision to recuse himself is not an admission of guilt, but a move meant to protect the integrity of the investigation, preserve public confidence, and avoid any possible conflict of interest.

Biago also pledged full cooperation with investigators and requested that an acting official be appointed to oversee the agency during his absence. He called for a fair, impartial, and transparent investigation.

The allegation remains unproven, and the letter does not establish any wrongdoing against Biago. The investigation is expected to clarify the facts surrounding the matter.

🚨🔥 GUILT… OR JUST A MOMENT? 👀

One moment. One gesture. A thousand questions.

During President Boakai’s Cabinet meeting, LDEA Boss Col. Fitzgerald T. M. Biago was seen bowing as the President addressed the reported US$19.2 MILLION drug bust in Liberia.

Was it simply respect?
Was it pressure?
Or did the body language reveal something deeper? 🤔

⚠️ We’re not declaring guilt—but the moment is raising eyebrows.

MONROVIA, Liberia — Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie has made serious allegations against senior figures within Liberia’s national security sector, including Deputy Police Commissioner Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, who is serving as Acting Officer-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA).

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1L7smmoYEi/

In a lengthy statement following his return from a break, Kollie alleged that an international drug-trafficking network has managed to establish links within Liberia’s security institutions. He specifically accused Biago of having connections to individuals he says are associated with major drug-trafficking activities in the country.

Kollie named George Wha Harris, popularly known as “Leroy Harris,” as a central figure in what he described as Liberia’s alleged co***ne cartel. Harris was previously arrested and charged by Liberian authorities in connection with the reported US$317 million co***ne seizure.

The grey Toyota Hilux

One of the key claims in Kollie’s statement involves a grey Toyota Hilux pickup that he says is regularly used by DCP Biago.

According to Kollie, Biago has been using two vehicles since taking over at the LDEA—one of them a government vehicle and the other a grey pickup that he claims is privately owned.

Kollie says the grey Hilux carries license plate A532084 and that vehicle records he reviewed show the registered owner as George Wha Harris.

The records cited by Kollie contain the following information:

- Registered owner: George Wha Harris
- License plate: A532084
- VIN: MRHGN7860NT199302
- Entry date: November 12, 2024
- Registration expiry: November 11, 2025
- Category: B00000386422
- Telephone number: 0880812971

Kollie also claims that the telephone number listed on the vehicle registration belongs to Harris. He said information from a mobile-money account further supports that connection.

However, the documents and claims cited by Kollie have not been independently verified. It also remains unclear whether ownership of the vehicle necessarily establishes that it was given to Biago, as alleged, or whether Biago has any personal or financial interest in the vehicle.

Allegations involving Biago’s wife

Kollie made another allegation involving Valerie Pennoh Biago, the wife of DCP Fitzgerald Biago.

He claimed that a separate vehicle was purchased for Mrs. Biago and had been parked at the family’s residence in the Rock Crusher community along Duport Road in Paynesville.

According to Kollie, the vehicle was later removed from the premises after he publicly raised questions about the alleged connection.

Kollie described the vehicle as another alleged benefit provided through George Wha Harris and the drug-trafficking network he claims Harris represents.

There was no independent evidence presented in the statement establishing who purchased the vehicle, who legally owns it, how it was financed, or whether it was transferred to Mrs. Biago.

Kollie demands action

Beyond the vehicles, Kollie argued that the alleged relationship between drug traffickers and elements of Liberia’s security institutions represents a serious threat to the country.

He accused parts of the national security sector, particularly the LDEA and Liberia National Police, of being vulnerable to infiltration by drug-trafficking interests. He linked the alleged failures to the growing impact of illicit drugs on young Liberians and the families affected by drug-related deaths.

Kollie is calling for Biago to resign or be removed from his position and for the allegations to be subjected to a full investigation.

«“The Cartel MUST be dismantled once and for all in order to save Liberia and the future of our children and youth,” Kollie said.»

He also promised to continue speaking on behalf of families who have lost relatives to drug-related problems and said he intends to release additional information about individuals he believes are connected to the alleged network.

Allegations require investigation

The claims made by Kollie are serious and, if substantiated, could have significant implications for Liberia’s national security and its fight against drug trafficking.

At the same time, the allegations remain allegations. They should not be treated as established criminal findings without independent verification and due process.

A credible investigation would need to establish the authenticity of the vehicle-registration records, determine who owns and controls the vehicles, examine any financial or material transfers, and establish whether there are communications or other evidence connecting the individuals named in Kollie’s statement.

The LDEA, Liberia National Police, relevant government authorities, and any competent investigative bodies would ultimately have to determine whether the allegations have merit.

For now, Kollie says this is only the beginning of what he describes as a broader effort to expose alleged links between drug traffickers and Liberia’s security establishment.

Further disclosures, he says, are forthcoming.

Liberia 🇱🇷:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President Boakai Calls for Accelerated Renovation of University of Liberia Campuses

August 5, 2026

Monrovia, Liberia :– President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has directed the Administration of the University of Liberia to immediately accelerate the renovation and modernization of its campuses, expressing serious concern over the slow pace of implementation despite significant Government investment.

The President's directive followed a high-level coordination meeting convened at the Executive Mansion on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 to assess the status of the University of Liberia's infrastructure rehabilitation program and identify measures to fast-track the reopening of the institution. The meeting brought together the Ministers of State for Presidential Affairs, Finance and Development Planning, Public Works, Local Government, and Education, together with the University's leadership, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders.

It may be recalled that the Government appropriated approximately US$6.3 million for the renovation and modernization of facilities across the University of Liberia. While the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has processed the necessary funding, President Boakai noted that he has not received sufficient evidence of substantial physical work on the ground. The meeting was therefore convened to establish the actual status of implementation, identify the causes of delay, and agree on practical measures to accelerate progress.

During the meeting, the University Administration outlined its phased renovation strategy, which includes the construction of a new twenty-five-classroom building at the Fendall Campus, the modernization of the University's largest academic building, and targeted rehabilitation works at the Capitol Hill and Sinje campuses. The University acknowledged, however, that major construction activities have yet to commence, citing technical delays associated with the procurement system.

Participants also agreed that while long-term modernization remains essential, urgent rehabilitation works affecting student safety and learning conditions, including roofing, sanitation, water supply, sewage systems, and structurally deficient facilities, must receive immediate attention before the University's reopening. The Ministry of Public Works was tasked with working closely with the University to validate project designs, implementation timelines, and technical priorities, while the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning committed to addressing procurement bottlenecks to ensure the timely commencement of works.

The Board of Trustees of the University will continue to closely monitor progress and work to improve working relations and better coordination among faculty, administration, and staff. The University Administration and Board of Trustees were also directed to engage faculty and students and maintain regular communication regarding renovation activities and reopening arrangements.

The meeting concluded with a comprehensive action plan that includes the immediate establishment of a joint technical team, the preparation of a costed and sequenced implementation program, the resolution of procurement challenges, and the creation of a Coordination Committee to be co-chaired by the Ministry of Public and the UL Administration. Other members of the Coordinating Committee include the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Education, and the Ministry of State.

President Boakai reaffirmed that improving the quality of higher education remains a priority of his Administration under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. He emphasized that the Government has made the necessary financial commitment and expects corresponding urgency in implementation, stressing that Liberia's premier public university must provide students and faculty with a safe, modern, and conducive learning environment.

The President called on all institutions involved to work collaboratively, remove administrative bottlenecks, and ensure that visible progress is achieved without further delay.
