An Interview with Marynell Henry, Executive Director of SAIL Home 💙

SAIL Home (Supported Access to Independent Living) was created out of love — and a deep commitment to address the urgent housing crisis facing adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and autism.

🏡 Mission: To build supported housing models where adults with IDD and autism can truly live, work, and socialize in inclusive communities.

The need is urgent: today, more than 70% of adults with intellectual disabilities still live at home with parents — and 25% of those parents are over the age of 60.

As Marynell shared: “There are few long-term housing options, and even fewer that truly honor the individuality, dignity, and community connections our loved ones deserve.”

Way Back Wednesday: This is the Canterbury Street School which was built in 1810 and used as an elementary school until about 1940. It was used as District Wardens Post during WWII. District Wardens were stationed all over Hingham and worked out of the GAR Hall, Gov. Andrew’s House, the police station, the three fire stations, and the Canterbury and Fort Hill Schools. The District Warden’s job was to instruct other wardens in protecting people and property from air raids and to carry out air raid defense measures. All wardens were given instruction in first aid and incendiary bomb disposal and were expected patrol the neighborhoods on a regular basis. This photo is from a private collection.

“The appeal has been dismissed, and the case is no longer pending in land court,” Town Administrator Tom Mayo said in a recent press release.

Select Board Chair William Ramsey provides insight into next steps and timing for the Town of Hingham.
