This is why. For weeks, I told him of the adventure that was before us, but did not reveal plans, as there weren’t any to reveal. For this would be exploration. And for every mile out of Oklahoma and towards the west, the pressures of an awkward age were shed like falling leaves. His nine-year-old eyes began to glow like the morning sun rising behind him.
