KTJS News — Friday, May 29th

🏛️ The Hobart City Council will hold a special called session meeting this Friday afternoon, May 29th at 4pm at City Hall.

The only item on the agenda is discussion only for the fiscal year 26-27 city budget review.

Authorities responded to shots fired in Grandfield Thursday afternoon. The individual who allegedly fired the shots barricaded themselves inside a home on 2nd Street near the intersection of Tipton Street.

Confirmed responding units include Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Tillman County Sheriff’s Office, the Cotton County Sheriff Office and the Grandfield Police Department.

⚖️ Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has lauded the guilty verdict handed down by an Oklahoma County jury to Brent Swadley for defrauding the state after contracting with the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department to open Swadley’s Foggy Bottom restaurants at select state parks. They included the restaurant at Quartz Mountain State Lodge.

Swadley was convicted on six felony counts of fraud after presenting false invoices to the Tourism Department for payment of public funds and directing a restaurant equipment supplier to fabricate invoices with inflated amounts for equipment.

Drummond said “Brent Swadley stole millions of dollars from Oklahoma taxpayers, and he will now face the consequences of those actions,” Drummond said.

The other two defendants, Curtis Breuklander and Timothy Hooper, pleaded guilty last week as the trial commenced. Swadley’s restaurant chain received $16.7 million from the State before the contract was canceled over allegations of fraudulent activity and improper bidding.

Sentencing has been set for July 16.

Ashley Hernandez Stafford has announced "After a lot of thought and many conversations, the difficult decision has been made to put Kozy Diner up for sale."

She says "For the last 20 years, Kozy has been so much more than just a restaurant to us. It has been early mornings, familiar faces, cups of coffee shared across tables, conversations, laughter, and a place “where the great minds meet”.

We’ve watched friendships grow, kids grow up, and have had the privilege of being a small part of so many lives.

To everyone who has supported us over the years — thank you. Thank you for choosing us for your morning coffee, breakfast dates, lunch breaks, and all the little everyday moments in between. Your support and loyalty have meant more to us than you’ll ever know.

This decision was not made lightly, and it definitely hasn’t been an easy one. While change can be hard, we’re grateful for the memories these last 20 years have given us.

For now, we’re still here, the coffee is still hot, and we’d love to keep seeing your familiar faces until we reach our closing date which has not yet been determined.
