Choque fatal bajo investigación

Condado Lea - El martes 24 de junio de 2025, aproximadamente a las 4:47 a. m., los agentes de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado Lea fueron enviados a Orla Road en referencia a una colisión de vehículos.

Al llegar, los agentes descubrieron un GMC Sierra 2016 guinda y un vehículo de motor comercial Freightliner 2007 blanco (CMV) con un remolque de tanque adjunto. Fatal Collision Under Investigation on Orla Road

Lea County, NM-June 24, 2025-On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at approximately 4:47 am, Deputies from the Lea County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Orla Road in reference to a vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra and a white 2007 Freightliner commercial motor vehicle (CMV) with an attached tank trailer. Investigation indicates that the GMC Sierra was traveling northbound on Orla Road when it collided with the Freightliner CMV. The CMV was exiting a lease road to the east and was in the process of turning south onto Orla Road when the GMC struck the tank trailer. The GMC was lodged underneath the trailer, and the driver of the GMC Sierra, Dominick Calderon, 19, of San Elizario, Texas, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.

The Lea County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is actively investigating this incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available at this time. # # #

Hobbs police searching for murder suspect

On Friday, June 6, 2025, the Hobbs Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area of the 800 block of East Lincoln in Hobbs.
When officers arrived, they found two subjects with apparent gunshot wounds. EMS arrived on the scene and transported both subjects to Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital.
One subject was flown to a Texas hospital, where he was later released.
The second subject, Ismael Rios, a 19-year-old male of Hobbs, died from his injuries.
Officers were able to gather information on the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Michael Alonzo Wynne Garcia.
Officers located Garcia inside his vehicle a few blocks away from the area. When ordering Garcia out of his vehicle, he fled at a high rate of speed.
Garcia is still at large.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Garcia on the following charges:
- Murder – 1st degree felony
- Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon – 3rd degree felony
- Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer – 4th degree felony
Garcia was last seen driving a red Toyota Camry bearing a Texas license plate TYL7444, registered to Michael Garcia.
This investigation is ongoing.
