Could you find one? An affordable bank account can open access to the financial mainstream, but how does one find such an account or know what affordability should look like?
In the Journal of Consumer Affairs, CSD Faculty Directors Julie Birkenmaier & Jin Huang (Saint Louis University - School of Social Work), & Alana Balu (Christian Hospital), report on bank responses to the voluntary national standards for affordable bank accounts & on banks’ efforts to make information on such accounts public. The findings suggest that bank account cost is not the only barrier for consumers. As the authors note, the findings also suggest implications for policy and practice.
