Unified Field is out today.

Emperor X's most ambitious album yet, written and recorded largely in Ukraine, captures life, loss, community, and persistence through Chad Matheny's singular lens.

For nearly three decades, Chad Matheny has been creating music as Emperor X, carving out a singular space between indie rock and emo folk/punk. Written and recorded largely in Ukraine during an ongoing time of war, Unified Field is a deeply personal and politically charged collection of songs that reflects resilience and community. Matheny has been a longtime advocate for Ukraine, visiting the region multiple times, touring there in 2023 and housing refugees at his home in Germany.

HAPPY RELEASE DAY . Well I Mean is out now!!!

Sometimes you have to go back to the beginning to find a way forward. Well I Mean hearkens back to the messy feelings Brian managed to get down when he was starting out, as part of the Front Bottoms. But now Sella is a grown up. He’s still battling some devils and demons but with more tools and expertise at his disposal.

While the Front Bottoms continue to record and tour and are more popular than ever, Sella has also struck out on his own in an effort to keep things fresh.

“I’ve tried different hobbies over the years ,” he explains. “But ultimately the thing I always come back to is songwriting and story telling. It’s just something I have to do and I have to find new ways to do it.”
