| Modern gynecology was built on the suffering of three enslaved Black women most people were never taught about.

Their names were Anarcha, Betsey, and Lucy.
In the 1840s, these three enslaved women in Alabama were forced to undergo repeated experimental surgeries by a doctor named J. Marion Sims.
He was trying to find a way to treat vesicovaginal fistula which was a serious childbirth injury.

The surgeries were done without anesthesia.And without their consent.

Their bodies endured the pain that helped Sims develop techniques that later became the foundation of modern gynecology.

For generations, medical history celebrated Sims as the “father of modern gynecology.”

But the women whose suffering made those discoveries possible were barely mentioned.

Today, many historians and advocates recognize Anarcha, Betsey, and Lucy as the true “Mothers of Gynecology.”

In 2021, artist Michelle Browder built a monument in Montgomery, Alabama to honor them and make sure their story is finally told.

Because their names deserve to be remembered.

| In Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, thousands of Christians and Muslims gathered at Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou to break their fast together.

More than 5,000 people joined prayers, shared meals, and messages of unity.

The event, themed “Christians and Muslims, all Burkinabe,” promotes peace, dialogue, and social cohesion during challenging times, a powerful example of fraternity and tolerance.
