Did you know Native American Heritage Day exists thanks to the efforts of the Haudenosaunee? A Seneca man first advocated for the observance in 1912, and it continued in different forms until it was officially recognized in 2008.
Today, we honor Indigenous greatness and celebrate the people who carry our culture forward simply by being who they are. Native American Heritage Day is a chance to learn more about Indigenous nations and to honor both our past, and the contemporary stories shaping our future. We are the next seven generations, creating change globally as artists, ironworkers, knowledge keepers, storytellers, engineers, and more, in every path we choose.
Akwesasne has raised amazing people who lead with integrity and represent our community with pride. Big or small, we love our community members and honor the impact they make.
