It’s always a blessing to film the beautiful family at Greenwood Elementary! Every teacher and faculty member is 100% engaged, and I have to imagine, goes home every day completely exhausted but with completely full hearts. Every student there is known, knows they are loved and seen. Thanks for letting me join the fam for a day.

🎙️NEVER HAVE I HELD SUCH A COOL PIECE OF HISTORY IN MY HANDS! Officially the coolest and most important mic I’ve ever had in my studio. This is a Shure Unidyne 55S (Unidyne II). But it’s not one of the more recent reissues. No sir. This is a legit vintage 1951 model. You’ve seen them before. Ya know, like the mic Elvis used. I’ve nerded out SO hard since 3am reading up the history and design of the Unidyne. It’s safe to say the development of this mic by Benjamin Bauer (well the Unidyne 1) is as important of innovation to the modern microphone as Edward Van Halen was to the innovations of the modern electric guitar. The serial is 5231, which I THINK means it was manufactured in the 31st week of 1952. Is that correct ? This mic belongs to my son’s theater arts teacher and he’s allowed me the HONOR of repairing it. I can’t wait to bring it back to life and hear the character of this mic. LET’S GO!!!

One of my favorite ways that turns the ebb and flow, and sometimes hectic flow, of daily life into something golden is her uncanny ability to find the funniest social posts. Just about every night, she has “funnies” she’s saved throughout the day to show me. Whether it’s CartNarcs, Appalachian Word of the Day, or something even more random, we laugh together HARD! It’s medicine. And no matter how hard I try, the funnies I find are never as funny as her finds. It sounds silly, but it’s tiny things like that my incredible wifey brings to the table that makes each day special. I’m SO THANKFUL God decided to make her. Happy Birthday, Sary!!!

You can copy. You can mimic. You can even get every note right. But no matter how right you get it, it will never sound like EVH. There’s a flow… an intonation… an electricity that God gifted to Edward and Edward alone - in his fingers - in his soul. The greatest guitar player and innovator that ever was, and ever will be. The mighty Edward Van Halen. 5 years. Thankful for continuing to innovate and push new musical boundaries in true Van Halen fashion. 🤘

🔥This is one of my favorite shots ever! This is the shot that convinced me that the X5 is fully capable of being my primary camera or even my only camera for almost any situation. Swipe: Vid 1 is the reframed cinematic shot, vid 2 is the same shot reframed for BTS, vid 3 are the two clips side by side. These two shots are from the same camera and the very same clip. The creative versatility of a 360 camera - particularly the provides is unique and powerful for storytelling as well as action. I’ll do a full video on the power of this camera soon. I’m going to keep pushing the camera and getting better with it. Boom! 💥

Today, I was reflecting on how much of a dork I was 19 years ago. I look at videos and think “Man… it must have been hard to be around me.” But my wifey saw deeper and better and I sure am dadgum glad she loved me anyway! The Lord is good. The Lord is kind. There is no goodness apart from Him. It is purely out of His unmatchable grace and love and mercy that I have my Sary for the rest of my days. I can just point to her and my family and say “Look what He has done!” I love you, Sary!
