On June 16th, 2025, my best friend, Ashley Elizabeth James, passed away. Ashley was the kind of person who lit up every room. Her spirit was bright, warm, and full of life, like sunshine.
She loved many things in this world, but nothing came close to the love she had for her family, especially her four beautiful children. A close second, though, was her deep love for her community.
Ashley was always looking for ways to help in the community. Whether it was through volunteering with her children’s school PTA, organizing clean-up days at the Whale Park, helping to start the Whale Park neighborhood watch, volunteering with the Hollister Litter Project, or fostering animals (including her beloved foster fail, Denali ❤️), Ashley gave her heart to the people and places around her.
She even started the 4 Our Block Foundation, with dreams of revitalizing our local skate park and partnering with professional skateboarders to provide skateboards and scooters to our underprivileged youth. She believed every child deserved a place to feel free, seen, and supported. Ashley had big dreams for our little town, and I have no doubt that if she had more time, she would have made every one of them come true.
Now, I turn to you — her friends, neighbors, and the community she loved so fiercely — to ask for help in giving Ashley the memorial and farewell she deserves. We are raising funds to cover her funeral and burial costs, and to help support her children in the difficult days ahead.
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world. And if you can’t give right now, sharing this page with others would be a tremendous help.
Let’s honor Ashley the way she lived — with love, community, and care.
