I went to upload a video last Friday and discovered that YouTube had terminated my channel.
No warning. No meaningful explanation. No opportunity to speak with an actual human being.
The original message claimed I had violated YouTube’s Circumvention Policy. I appealed, only to receive a response saying the issue was a Community Guidelines violation. I then reached out to on X as a last-ditch effort and, unsurprisingly, received another automated response saying they had “reviewed” my channel and confirmed that it would not be reinstated.
Fantastic.
The most frustrating part? Nobody can actually tell me what I did wrong.
And unfortunately, it appears I’m far from alone. Over the past couple of weeks, creator forums have been flooded with people describing remarkably similar experiences: channels terminated without a clear explanation, contradictory reasons for the termination, appeals rejected, and virtually no way to get an actual human being to look at the situation.
Apparently, this is what “supporting creators” looks like in 2026 at Team YouTube.
If you're considering becoming a content creator, I strongly recommend looking into some of the YouTube horror stories before making YouTube the foundation of your social media strategy. Building a channel takes an enormous amount of time, effort, and investment. Having it disappear overnight with no clear explanation—and no meaningful avenue for recourse—is incredibly frustrating.
I'll admit, dealing with this mess has taken some of the wind out of our sails.
But this is NOT the end of Show Me The Muni.
We're going to keep doing exactly what we set out to do: showcasing our favorite public golf courses and giving back to the passionate players who call them home.
We're shifting our primary focus to TikTok moving forward. Hopefully I don't accidentally offend the TikTok algorithm by…checks notes…playing golf and donating money to high school golf programs.
