*No Spoilers* I saw Superman a 2nd time in the theater, and I enjoyed it even more. The first time I thought it was good, the 2nd time I thought it was great! Is it perfect? No, and I’ve got my criticisms, especially as I’m a picky person when it comes to Superman (and many superheroes). But for me, it’s the best superhero film I’ve seen since Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (I admit I haven’t seen Fantastic Four yet – hoping to this week!). But I REALLY think if you’re a Superman or DC fan you should see it in the theater, as it’s definitely a “BIG SCREEN” movie!

For my 2nd viewing, what I noticed the most was how FUN the movie is and how it’s really happening more in a “comic book world” than many other superhero movies today. It’s early in Superman’s overall career, and he comes across as someone who is genuinely good and wants to save people, even if he’s still naïve in some areas. The true depth of evil by someone like Lex Luthor is almost beyond his comprehension. I also loved seeing the “Justice Gang” of Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific, and Hawkgirl – never thought I’d see all of them in a live screen movie!
My biggest criticism of the film is probably the pacing being a bit too quick and sometimes choppy. But I feel that was done to keep the film shorter. James Gunn talked about the long length of superhero movies these days (including his own Guardians 3) and he’s not wrong! This wasn’t a bloated film, and the action scenes were tight and didn’t go on endlessly long to where you feel you’re just watching a lot of digital showcasing.

And for those who boycotted it because they heard it was “woke,” well, joke’s on you. First, I don’t even think it IS what the far right considers woke. As I said in another post, the values and world of Superman here are the same as they’ve been, but people took James Gunn’s “immigrant” comments and went wild, and they don’t like his clever criticisms of Trump, so there you go. If we weren’t in this insanely divisive pollical and social media climate, no one would have cared.
Good movie – see it on the big screen!

Despite finding several big items I was looking for at the Comic-Con International a couple days ago, I think this small, inexpensive Atari magnet, that I wasn't even looking for, might be my favorite thing I got.

Betty White provided a comic touch to this 1999 horror film.

Happy 80th Birthday, to the Boy Wonder!

We needed some fun entertainment the other night in this challenging week, so we watched a Bond movie which I hadn't seen since I was a kid. The Living Daylights, Timothy Dalton's first of only 2 times playing Bond in the late '80s.

Like most Bond movies, even the ones that aren't the best are still a fun ride. Timothy Dalton is a fine Bond. He has a similar look to Pierce Brosnan whom I like a little better. And I believe the studio originally wanted Brosnan for this, but he was doing Re*****on Steele. Not a top fave Bond film for me, but it was good and fun, with a decent plot of fun twists, chases and gadgety weapons, and a charming Bond girl in Maryam d'Abo. Next up: License to Kill!

Batman: Caped Crusader. The first episode I liked! No show will ever be The Animated Series, but this one's 1940s setting helps, it has good voice talent, and solid action. My one gripe was some of the character's close-up animation style wasn't my fave, but overall, good. And the gender bending of Penguin into "Oswalda" Cobblepot actually gave it a fresh feel! Looking forward to more!

Okay...you have my attention. This actually looks really good! But... I was fooled before, by 2004's "Alien vs Predator" final trailer years ago (and Comic-Con panel).
At least here, the director has been saying so many great things about practical effects and intent to recapture some of the horror feel of the first Alien film, whereas the director of Alien v Predator made comments that showed me he didn't understand the franchise going into it.

Maybe we'll get a "Prey" movie situation where I'll be pleasantly surprised at the first good entry in a franchise in over a decade....

The final trailer for Alien: Romulus has arrived. Get tickets now and experience it in IMAX. In theaters everywhere August 16. www.fandango.com/AlienRomulus“...
