We believe the most powerful stories come from creating space: space to be real, thoughtful, and human. For Jillian’s story, we designed an intimate, respectful set with soft lighting and a calm, unhurried pace, letting her truth take center stage.

Jillian’s journey is one of resilience and reclaiming control amid false accusations, with Soberlink’s accountability tool playing a pivotal role in proving her sobriety and restoring dignity.

This is our fourth deeply personal collaboration with Soberlink, and each time we’re reminded that thoughtful storytelling, built on trust, can make a lasting impact.

Yes, we tell serious stories. But the environment we create on set? It’s full of warmth, laughter, and human connection. Because that’s part of the story, too.

Behind the camera on this shoot with Max & Cami and Jillian, there were quiet moments of reflection… and also belly laughs, hugs, and a whole lot of heart. Creating space for people to be real means honoring all of it (the hard stuff and the hope).

Grateful to our team for holding space with care, and to our subjects, and Soberlink for trusting us to tell it true.

Let’s get real about alcohol addiction: it’s raw, complicated, and often heartbreaking. So how do you tell a love story that holds pain, relapse, and hope all at once?

In our latest short for Soberlink, we met Cami, who stood by Max through some of their most difficult moments. Her honesty reminds us that recovery is rarely a solo journey. It’s the quiet resilience of the people who choose to stay. With evocative lighting, unfiltered interviews, and space to be real, we helped bring that story to light.

Are you afraid of the dark? Don’t be! From our cinematographer Chris Kas:

"When we first started shooting nights a few years ago, I learned pretty quickly that we had to devise a system that we could rely on night after night, shoot after shoot, to make each setup go smoothly and efficiently.

First, we pick our location, decide on the blocking and then choose our focal length. Once we have our frame, we start to position our fixtures to light up our background. One of the most important things to do in a dark space is to create separation between the background and the subject. It seems counterintuitive at first to light up the darkness, but it’s less about illuminating the space and more about exposing just enough detail in the darkness to create interest and depth.

Simultaneously, we are positioning our key light for our subject. Typically I choose an overhead soft look as this creates a top down glow we might get from the moon on a clear night. It also performs as an edge, creating more separation from the background.

For our circumstances the subject is often flashlights or models using flashlights. Because of that, the flashlight intensity dictates the light level for the scene. So we use Aputure dimmable LED fixtures with our RED Digital Cinema Komodo to accommodate the varying levels of light from these flashlights and to strike the right balance.

Oftentimes, resources are in conflict with the amount of work ahead of us, but that’s filmmaking. Having systems or routines help focus our efforts in effective ways."
