ANNUAL KAPPAROT FOR YOM KIPPUR ($26 For each family member)
http://www.BHYK.org
The accepted custom in all Jewish communities around the world is to perform the ceremony of KAPAROT on the day before Yom Kippur, as a symbol of our TeShuva, and as a ransom for our own lives. Regarding the slaughtering of chickens there have been mixed opinions throughout history. While the Shulchan Aruch (605:1), Ramban and other Rishonim forbade this practice as a superstitious practice, the Arizal (Sha’ar Hakavanot pg 100a), Rashi and others opined that it’s a permissible custom. The main issue is that in those days the chickens were given to the poor, while today they are mostly thrown away and wasted, which sinful waste based on all opinions.
*For this reason and others, we follow the suggestion of Haye Adam (144:4) and Mishna Berura (605:2) and replace the value of a chicken with money we give to the poor. We estimate that each family member has to give $26 to fulfill the KAPAROT.*
You can fulfill the Kapparot by donating the $26 per person in your family (pregnant mother should give for baby too) on our website BEFORE YOM KIPPUR and we will distribute the funds on your behalf to those in need. 100% of the money you donate minus minimal banking fees, will go to poor people.
