As the leading community and area newspaper, the Avalanche is read every week for in-depth local news, features, business articles, county government news, crime, ranch

The Avalanche also publishes periodic special editions and supplements, and is the source for all county and government business news and legal notices. The Owyhee Avalanche office is located at 19 E. Idaho Ave., in Homedale, 40 miles west of Boise. Owyhee County is the second-largest in terms of area in Idaho, and also is one of the oldest in the state. It was founded on Dec. 31, 1863, with the original county seat in the mining town of Silver City.

BLM, Bruneau fire crews battle fire
A quick-spreading vegetation fire is expected to be controlled Thursday night, according to the Bureau of Land Management.
Firefighters from BLM Boise District and the Bruneau Rural Fire Protection District are working to contain the Tindall Fire, which sparked on Tuesday and spread to more than 1,500 acres by Wednesday.
The fire in the Crane Falls area north of Tindall Road could be contained this evening with control expected at 8 p.m., on Thursday.

Road maintenance planned on Idaho 55
Lane restrictions are coming to a stretch of Idaho highway 55 that runs through Marsing as Main Street.
The lane restrictions begin Monday from the U.S. Highway 95-Idaho 55 junction west of Marsing to Hoskins Road in Canyon County.
The Idaho Transportation Department will sealcoat seven miles of highway. Work will take place between 7 a.m., and 7 p.m., each day
The work should end in mid-August.
Flaggers will control traffic during construction hours, and all lanes will be open after 7 p.m., each day.
Work zone speed limits will be reduced to 35 mph, and a 12-foot width restriction will be in place.

Fate of Bruneau Elementary in voters' hands
The Bruneau-Grand View School District board of trustees voted to keep Bruneau Elementary School open at least for the 2025-26 school year during a lengthy meeting Tuesday.
A November election apparently will let patrons decide if the school remains open beyond the next school year.
