Trojans heading back to 4A state final
Homedale High School will take another shot at winning the Class 4A football state championship next weekend.
But for the first time in the Matt Holtry coaching era, the Trojans won't have face Sugar-Salem.
Homedale buried the reigning state champion, 30-20, in Saturday's state semifinal at ICCU Arena on the Idaho State University campus in Pocatello.
The victory is the first for the Trojans over the Diggers since the postseason rivalry heated up in the 3A Milk Bowl at the end of the 2018 season.
Homedale (10-1) takes a four-game winning streak into the championship game, and the Trojans will face Kimberly (8-3) for all the marbles.
The Trojans beat the Bulldogs, 28-21, in a non-conference meeting on Sept. 12 at Deward Bell Stadium.
