Is It | "Stick-Boxing" | Bagwork Active meditation.

Short list of Basic Fighting Principles & Concepts.
💢Long Range, Bridge, Intercept, Reposition to the Outside Line, and Dominate the Flank.
💢Stances and Footwork. If you can't stand, you can't move. If you are out of range and position, you can't hit your target.
💢Take the initiative and maintain positive control of the fight space.
💢The Initiative, is the ability to impose your will upon another person via deliberate action or feigned inaction.
💢If you are reacting to your opponent, you've lost the Initiative and are a step behind.
💢Taking the initiative requires you to be proactive.
💢Take the Angle. The Flank (3,9,5,7 pos) are the Dominate Positions.
💢Rhythm and Timing.
💢Move with cover.
💢The riskiest part of movement is the transitions across the centerline and bridging in/out of medium range.
💢Time equals Distance. Long beats create opportunities to close with and manipulate your opponent.
💢Know the difference between a target of opportunity and a target of creation.
💢Trading in 50/50 is not ideal.
💢Feel is faster than sight.
💢Pattern Recognition, Recall, and Ex*****on.
💢Start from the ground up. If you take away your opponent's base, you take away their confidence to move. Force your opponent to turn and find you. Take away their gas tank by taking their wind. Body before head.
💢Those who cannot run, fight.
💢(Knife-Stuff) - "If I can touch you. I can cut you and k ☠️LL you. However, you can do the same to me."
💢If I can touch you with rounds, you can touch me.
💢"Good Technique" is the uniformed potential of human biomechanical efficiency. However, what is efficient for me is limited based on the current state of athleticism, kinesthetic knowledge, capability, composition, competence, and adjustment for injury.

It's a work in progress.


"I don't like IG million count flashy combos." They show an expert performer's skill at the their peak understanding and ex*****on of pattern recognition, rhythm, timing, and choreography. However, IG padholding often doesn't show the process to get to that level of proficiency.


Padholder | Your job is to hold the pad where a target might logically be. Your job is also to determine how long it will be there. Also, hold the pad at your athlete's shoulder height. I sometimes forget to. I'm short AF and my shoulders are shot. Oh well.

The internet, "Bro, is nothing more than just bad dancing. It looks like you're doing the running man while doing the salsa. Also, it'll never Werk-In-Da-Streetz and your doing it wrong."

Me, "First, it's you're... And, yes, yes it is... but, we do it with violence. We dance with violence." Continues to twerk and twinkle-toe.

The internet, "Dafaaaaughk!?"

"If you can't dance, you can't fight."

Are you sure...?


Blah, blah, blah, Shadowboxing is... IYKYK. It can look silly. It has a purpose, provided you are working on something specific. There has to be a goal and intentionally behind your movement.

Shadowboxing is an ideal time to work on your footwork.

Things to consider working on, strategy, tactics, space management, range, timing, and techniques.

Also, probably most importantly, shadowboxing is an opportune time to work on rhythm.

I swear the majority of my coaching and teaching is literally getting my students and athletes to dance, have the permission to dance, and get past the, "I feel judged, look silly, and this is silly" phase when it comes to teaching footwork, i.e. dance.

"Dancing is not manly!"

"OH, FAAAAUGHK-OFF WITH THAT."


Ok, more coffee, less sarcasm. Whatever, do the violent dancing thing, or don't, you do you homie.

💢⚔️ Tip Toward the Target.
💢⚔️ Keep the soft and squishy away from the sharp and pointy.
💢⚔️ Impact and cut through or drag cut.
💢⚔️ Push/Pull, Coil/Big Release, Rotational Power.
💢⚔️ After the thrust, frame and push off with your othehand, and practice how to extract the blade from the target.
💢⚔️ Minimize Target availability by being small and behing the blade.
