US National Weather Service Grand Rapids Michigan

More storms possible yet tonight.

We are seeing a lull in thunderstorm activity over West Michigan (few storms still popping up though), but our attention is focused to our west over Wisconsin where the next round of thunderstorms is developing along a cold front. This will be our next big chance for rain and storms, with arrival into West Michigan most likely starting in the 8-9PM timeframe. There is potential for storms to fill in more along the front in the next few hours. The atmosphere is still unstable enough to support severe weather, so make sure you have ways to receive potential severe weather and flood warnings, even if you head off to sleep.

Homer Community Schools Home of the Trojans

Homer Community Schools Families,

After careful consideration, we are delaying the start of the school year for all students until after Labor Day on Tuesday, September 8. I sincerely apologize for the late notification, but this decision was not made easily. After numbers were reviewed following students' commitments to online or traditional learning, we found it necessary to shift teachers between grade levels, as well as shift teachers from in-person to virtual instruction.

We have heard from our families and we know that you want high quality instruction in a safe environment for our in-person students and a robust and comprehensive online learning experience for our virtual students. We have been working hard to ensure that both of these are fully in place for your students. However, we have experienced some unexpected delays in the delivery of important personal protective equipment (PPE) and technology. This delay to the start will help us to ensure that everyone is fully prepared to provide the BEST of both learning experiences for all of our students.

I am committed to your student's education and keeping your child safe this fall. Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this unprecedented time.

Sincerely,

Scott Salow, Superintendent
