This week on “Acoustic Accents” we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of Mark Erelli’s breakthrough album “Compass & Companion” with a special encore presentation of a “Words and Music” interview recorded just days after its release in 2001. You’ll hear Mark reflect on those early days—alongside songs that helped define that era.We’ll also feature music from some of Mark’s contemporaries, including Jonathan Kingham and Kelly Willis, plus more recent releases from The Garrett Boys, Christina Vane, and Tony Furtado. A few weeks ago, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Alison Krauss & Union Station live at the Vetter Stone Amphitheater in Mankato, Minnesota. What a night! Willie Watson did a splendid job opening the show, which was no small task. The stage was packed with world-class talent including the “Swiss army knife” of stringed instruments, Stuart Duncan, along with Ron Block, Barry Bales, Russell Moore, and the legendary Jerry Douglas. Everyone was in great form including the incomparable Alison Krauss. Just… WOW!. They’re touring all over this summer in support of their new album, “Arcadia.” If they come near you… go see em! You won’t regret it.

Last month, we embarked on our annual pilgrimage to Folk Alliance International conference in Montreal, the ultimate gathering for all things folky. It’s always a highlight of the year, a chance to recharge, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and, of course, soak in an incredible amount of live music. With over 2,500 showcases to choose from, we barely scratched the surface! This week, we’re diving into some of the standout performances—both new discoveries and longtime favorites—that we had the pleasure of experiencing while we were there.
