TIPS TO REMEMBER ABOUT TAGS/INSURANCE......
Whenever you have Georgia based insurance coverage, your insurance company reports directly to the state when coverage starts and when it ends or lapses. If you have an active tag on the vehicle, the state system recognizes that the car is possibly being operated without insurance coverage. You are sent a letter charging you a $25 fine for the lapse, and you must pay it by the deadline on the letter. If you do not respond, the state will suspend your tag and charge you an additional $60 to reinstate it. If your car has been sold or is currently inoperable or parked and you drop your insurance, you need to contact the Tag Office and make your tag inactive until you get ready to get your insurance reinstated, fix the car and put it back on the road. Once coverage is back on the vehicle, you will again need to contact the tag office to reactivate your tag. This needs to be done every time your coverage is dropped to avoid fines and penalties.
