Just to update everyone, the 45 day window to appeal the value of your property with the Tax Assessor is over. Next, we start the millage rate process. With processing waits and advertising requirements, this will take well into December. After that we must submit all the required paperwork to the state and wait for approval to print and collect the property tax bills. With the holidays approaching, it is looking more and more like the bills won't come out until January, if everything goes well. I will try to keep you updated as we continue the process.

2025 Property Tax bills will be late this year due to the total reevaluation of all property. The Tax Assessment Notices recently were sent out. Once the appeal period is over (November 15th), the taxing entities will begin to advertise their proposed millage rates. Once the millage rates are finalized, we will submit our Digest to the State for approval. When the Digest is approved, we will be able to have our processor print and mail the bills. As you can see, this is a lengthy process. Therefore, if all goes perfectly well, it could be December when the bills are sent. However, with the holiday closures of everyone involved in the process, I won't be surprised if it isn't January before they are in the mail. You will have at least 60 days after the bills are mailed before they are due. Thank you all for your patience during this process.

The Georgia Legislature has passed a Bill to give relief of Timber Tax to landowners due to the damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Therefore, billing for 1st quarter timber tax will be delayed until all the regulations and procedures are put into place by the state, county and school. This may also affect 4th quarter, 2024 timber tax that has already been billed and paid. As soon as we receive guidance on how to proceed, I will post the process on social media and in the county newspaper.

We will be closed for our annual training Monday through Thursday, May 12-15. There is a drop slot on our office door if you need to drop off a payment or tag renewal. Please do not drop off cash, only checks or money orders. If you need to renew an automobile tag, you can do so online at https://eservices.drives.ga.gov. Your decal will be mailed to you. We will not be charging any late fees in the office if your birthday falls between May 10th through May 15th, as long as you come by and renew on the 16th. Letters will be available outside our door to put in your vehicle as proof that you were unable to purchase your tag on those dates.
Thanks for your patience and continued support as we try our best to stay up-to-date on new laws and procedures to better serve you.
