"A Christmas Carol," the original novel, was more radical than its film and television adaptations may have led you to believe. I recently wrote on Substack about how Charles Dickens depicted Ebenezer Scrooge as not just a greedy man, but part of a larger system of economic injustice.

Despite the countless adaptations and homages in movies, television and comics, the Charles Dickens novel is still worth reading.

Come out to Printers Row Lit Fest 24’ in the South Loop of Chicago next weekend. You can find Starving Author Press at the Chicago Writers Association tent from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 7.

I’ll be handing out free bookmarks and selling Starving Author Press books and prints, including plenty of copies of Massacre at the Comic Shop.

Oh, and did I mention this is the largest outdoor literary festival in the Midwest and it’s FREE to get in?

See you there!

I forgot to thank my close friend Justin Anderson in the Acknowledgments of Massacre at the Comic Shop! But I want to let everyone know that his nerdy self and moral support was part of the inspiration for the book. I’ve seen and discussed so many movies with him it’s insane. And it was an oversight to not mention him in the Acknowledgements for a book where the characters talk about pop culture with one another. Thanks, dude!!!

I’m on the Brown Line heading to Chicago Books to Women to Women in Prison.

My most recent Kickstarter had a tier where you could help me donate a copy of my book of poetry, American Bug. I’m finally dropping off the six copies!

Hopefully my poety in American Bug can bring the prisoners some solace.

I hope that people enjoy my book, Massacre at the Comic Shop - a horror story with something to say about social media, fandom and nerd culture. Not everything about the book is going to appeal to every reader - but that’s okay. You can like what you like and skim the parts that are less interesting to you, especially on a second read.

Because yeah, I REALLY hope that some people can read the book a second time. It’s not too long. It’s about the same length as a Fear Street book. And there are several easter eggs for those who already know what’s revealed by the end of the story. Also, on a second read, you might be surprised by just how early on certain plot points and ideas actually appear in the book. It’s easy for details like that to slip your mind on the first read.

Massacre at the Comic Shop is currently available for pre-order in my Etsy shop and Barnes & Noble’s wesbite. While the cover artwork still hasn’t appeared yet, it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon as well. Check it! And have a scary day. 🙂
