MEET THE OWNERS. Steve Johnston, PsyD is a fantasy writer, game designer, and co-founder of American Carver LLC, where he crafts dark, story-rich adventures for tabletop RPGs. Holding a doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Steve brings a unique lens to character development and emotional depth in gameplay—especially within tense, high-stakes narratives. He is the creator of Stormspire: Whispers of th

e Lost, a Daggerheart-compatible campaign steeped in dread, mystery, and high fantasy with a shadowed edge. Known for his modular design, accessible mechanics, and immersive world-building, Steve helps new and seasoned GMs deliver cinematic, impactful sessions. He also designs 3D-printed gaming tools and digital content for online play. Based in Florida, he works alongside his creative partner, faithful black Lab Sage, and a near-constant thunderstorm of inspiration. Harold Taylor is a geometric design engineer and co-owner of American Carver. With over 20 years of professional origami experience and more than six years in the fashion industry as a tie-dye artisan, Harold bridges the gap between concept and creation. His expertise in sacred geometry and unit origami informs everything from our modular wood designs to one-of-a-kind wearable art. With a background in business and production, Harold brings ideas to life—translating abstract forms into physical products through precise craftsmanship and creative vision.

Our family studio is nestled along the stunning Florida Nature Coast on the Gulf of Mexico. We started American Carver with the mission of designing beautiful American Made, natural wood products that serve a purpose while bringing relaxation and enjoyment to you and your family. Our products are built to stand the test of time, with our humble hope of becoming your family's newest heirloom. Our backgrounds are in design, technology and mental health. Dr. Steve Johnston (who is also our Technical Guru and Adobe Master) worked in psychology for more than two decades, specializing in trauma and post traumatic stress. His design concepts focus on forms, colors and energetics which bring a sense of calm and mental wellbeing. Harold Taylor is our engineering master, with over two decades of professional origami creation, while also having a business background; he moves the conceptual designs to the physical creation space as he works out the nuances of our product designs and final assemblies. American Carver was created to bring happiness through meaningful handmade American products with an understanding of the Human Condition and the need for a healing, restorative experience in one's home, office or sacred space.
