State of Aloha is a podcast that dives deep into the history and culture of Hawai'i beyond the beautiful beaches and tourism. Each episode will focus on a specific piece of Hawaiian history and life intertwining Hawaiian values with wala'au style interviews and personal anecdotes from subject matter experts.
The podcast is hosted by Andrea "Hau'oli" Olalia, a California-bred lifelong Hawaiian Civic Club member and graduate of Emerson College's journalism program. Her ohana comes from the island of O'ahu and Maui where she been blessed to spent time with her extended family. Andrea grew up dancing hula and learning about Hawaiian traditions and values from various kupuna (elders). As the podcast host and creator, her kuleana (mission) is to elevate Hawaiian voices as the main storytellers of Hawaiian history and culture.
The first episode airs on May 1st in conjunction with Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month. In the inaugural month, the podcast will release a new episode every week!
