I’m not in the city anymore. I’m in the boonies!!! I also just hit 5 months (not 6 months as my family had thought! Trust me… I know how long I’ve been out here lol) I got to take a flight Thursday morning and then another 45 min drive to our house.

The area reminds me of Park City/Midway! It feels like a retirement community or like people that work nights.

Fun Facts about my new area:

-It is insanely far from Vancouver
- My zone is larger than the state of Texas
- Our chapel is TINY but the Spirit is STRONG!

We’ve done so much service here! We’ve helped two families move out of their homes. You know me and my love for service! Not only do we make these families happy, we also get to wear regular clothes haha! The guy we helped today said, “I had no idea this type of thing existed!” Glad we were able to help him move and it was fun hearing about his life.

A lot of people here have different faiths and it’s been so much fun getting to know what they truly believe. We’ve met Muslims, Sikhs, Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and a witch. The people here are pretty dang sweet. 😌

My first Sunday here we had nine people! It was five missionaries and four others. A lot of people were out of town so there is that haha. We basically ran the whole service. The senior missionary couple sang a song and played their guitar.

Spiritual thought:
3 Nephi 9:14 “Yea, verily I say unto you, if ye will come unto me ye shall have eternal life. Behold, mine arm of mercy is extended towards you, and whosoever will come, him will I receive; and blessed are those who come unto me.”

This is what Jesus said when He visited the Americas after His resurrection. I love this verse because it reminds me that His arm of mercy is always extended to us, no matter what. All we have to do is come to Him!

What I did as a missionary this past week… ➡️

Went to English Bay and wrote on a whiteboard “What brings you joy?” It was a fun way to meet new people and hear their responses 😂

Did a tie trade with Elder Harker he lived in our apartment for two months!

Picked up the essentials… a big gulp and some sushi! I actually had sushi basically for the first time (I’ve had a bite of one on vacation a few years ago) it was actually pretty good and I understand a bit more of the hype haha *I got chicken teriyaki sushi so not raw fish ones

We were drafting up a text to send to our church members about our friends baptism coming up...

“Hey! Elder Young & Elder Mikesell here. Mark’s baptism is Saturday @ 6pm at the church. Would love to see you!

“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints” Ephesians 2:19

Come help us welcome Mark into the family!”

Writing up Mark’s baptism invite made me feel so grateful. I love my Vancouver church family! They really do feel like family when I’m this far from you all!

What a week! Here’s a little glimpse into what happened this past week!

Let’s start with…

Tuesday:
- Preparation Day! Laundry, clean up the apartment
- Went to the church and played some games, called the fam on FaceTime. Elder Young’s Mom surprised all of us with Costco pizza
- Thrifting
- Ended the night with a teaching lesson and she surprised us with sourdough, Duffin’s Donuts, and Crumbl!

Wednesday:
- Lot’s of lessons!
- Did some finding by inviting people to our Bible study!

Thursday:
- District Council, we usually have it on Wednesdays though
- Talked about the people we are teaching, miracles we saw, and how we can help each other out as missionaries
- Had some more lessons! Sadly a few fell through...
- Picked up a few things from the store and it took so long to get downtown because they are filming a TV show. Vancouver is big in show biz haha!
Friday:
- Did some comp study at this cool park
- Had to grab a Big Gulp from the gas station because it was so hot! I saved a plastic straw from this restaurant we ate at a few days ago and it was so nice having a straw that didn’t turn mushy
- Ran into a few people that watch my YouTube channel! They were so nice! We invited them to this free dinner/gospel study that our church puts on

Saturday:
- More lessons and church tours
- This lady we are teaching brought us homemade meals for our entire apartment! Her parents are members and wanted to treat the missionaries. The Elders were so hyped because we got food for the next few days haha!

Sunday:
- Church was so good!
- Drove around Vancouver to meet with our friends that we are teaching
- A member from the Philippines invited us to their home and made the best “break your fast” meal! I should’ve been called there — I love all their food and the warm weather. Haha!

Grateful for today. Six years ago, my brother, mom, dad, and two of our family friends were in a plane crash. That was one of the hardest trials my family and I have ever faced.

Through it, though, we learned so much. We grew closer as a family. It changed our priorities and made us think about what matters most.

D&C 122:7 — “...all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.” We will face challenging things in this life. But remember that promise! These experiences are for our good.

And we don’t have to face them alone. Jesus Christ has His arms stretched wide to welcome us, and He will walk with us through every trial.
