I never thought Iā€™d leave Texas.

our first time in Hawaii was our honeymoon, exactly one year ago. neither of us had ever been until that week. when the plane landed in Honolulu, there was a double rainbow on the tarmac. I think God always knew weā€™d end up here. thereā€™s something about this place, the islands and the eternal sun, salt water and rainbows in the sky that has brought me a level of peace I havenā€™t experienced in years.

despite our growing love for this place, the life weā€™re building here, and the friendships weā€™re making there are a lot of people who are angry with us for making this choice. both strangers and people we know back on the mainland.

I genuinely didnā€™t realize so many people felt that sense of entitlement and ownership over the choices weā€™ve made for what was best for our family.

the job Justin has here is not only amazing for his career and our future, itā€™s also the first time that Malachi and Marilyn have had health insuranceā€¦ever. Malachi is turning 9 years old next month.

I did the very best I could to provide for them as a single mom, but even working two jobs I was self employed and could never afford insurance. I paid for all of their medical bills out of pocket, even when Marilyn went to the emergency room with a cut on her head, I paid for it all 100% on my own.

yet somehowā€¦their step dad providing for them in this way isnā€™t an acceptable reason to moveā€¦even to people who donā€™t want to financially contribute to their lives.

all I can say is, I never thought Iā€™d leave Texas, but it has turned out to be the best decision we could have made for our family and we LOVE IT HERE. šŸ©µ
