September is Sustainability Month, and we're revisiting an evergreen story for anyone ready to start their composting journey! 🌱

Meet Mindy Jaffe, aka "The Waikīkī Worm Lady." A former Oʻahu official, Mindy left her government career in the early 2000s when she learned the island would build another landfill. Her mission? Teaching others to compost with worms.

Here's the reality: Hawaiʻi wastes tons of food with no system beyond tossing it in the trash. Jaffe made it her life mission to reduce Oʻahu's waste one bin at a time.

Learn how to compost from home with worms from Jaffe herself at one of her monthly workshops. 🪱 Learn more at wormohana.org

Join us for a beautiful night of music, culture, and community at the inaugural Wednesdays in the Park — happening this Wednesday, September 24 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park in the heart of Honolulu’s Chinatown Arts District.

This free outdoor event features a performance by Arara de Vento, an acclaimed Brazilian jazz ensemble known for blending traditional bossa nova, samba, and jazz fusion into a rich, melodic experience. Also taking the stage is Dominic Carlos, an HKF On the Rise artist whose soulful vocals and heartfelt island storytelling are capturing hearts across Hawaiʻi.

Wednesdays in the Park is presented in collaboration with The Creative City, the Hawai‘i Theatre Center, the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts, and the Henry Kapono Foundation. As a signature event of the Home in the Islands Music Festival, this special evening also marks the launch of a new monthly music series designed to celebrate Oʻahu’s vibrant arts scene and offer free cultural programming for all.

Guests are invited to relax into their Pau Hana surrounded by great music, good company, and the unique urban charm of Chinatown. Enjoy the mellow grooves and connect with the creative energy that defines our island home.
