Season 1, Episode 5:
EL PISHTACO ÑAKAQ
This is a retablo ayacuchano, a form of folk art in a wooden box, depicting “Los Pishtacos.”
In it you can see the torsos hanging over pots, where the human fat is being collected. Bells, forged with the human fat, hang next to the bodies. The PISHTACOS, the priests and landowners, oversee their macabre work.
Find out more about “The Pishtaco Ñakaq,” the creature scouring the highlands of the Andes, looking for lonely travelers. Born from ancient indigenous cultures and blended with colonial conquistadores, this murderer extracts a terrible price from every victim.
