I am excited for the next phase of the Gorge Impact Film Festival (GIFF) as our team begins bringing off-season screenings to the Columbia River Gorge!

The first one in the series is Common Ground Film. This film invites audiences to explore the powerful impact of Regenerative Farming and witness the positive ripple effects on the land.

I caught this piece on opening night in Portland with the directors in-house and learned so much. I am thrilled to be connecting this story to the GIFF community!

Tickets Here:

Watch the film Common Ground, the sequel to the documentary, Kiss the Ground, at the Skylight Theater in Hood River, Oregon on January 14th, 2024.

“To me, if we don’t do these things, we aren’t good stewards of the planet. Whether it’s stewards with your employees and social responsibility or stewards of the Earth, we don’t have that much left yet to save this planet.” - Donna Layburn
Donna and Randy are an unlikely duo, but they are the driving force behind why Alameda Natural Grocery is what it is today. Donna, founder, and the president had the vision to turn an old car dealership into a thriving marketplace. She works side by side with Randall, the General Manager responsible for making the store as inclusive as possible with a mission centered around social justice, all the way from the hiring process to the brands they carry on the shelves.

Natural food stores have been at the forefront of getting healthy, whole foods to their communities since the 60s. Over the last decade, these values have become mainstream. INFRA asked us to highlight their member store, Alameda Natural Grocery, to share what they took on next. From how they hire, to how they deal with waste, to working on getting more representation of black-owned companies on their shelves, they have become beacons in social and environmental values for natural food stores. Enjoy this little clip, and keep your eyes open for the full film this Friday!

K-LINK is a unique collaboration of local organizations that do amazing work in our community! From mental and behavioral health to food banks to housing services, the K-Link collaboration has enabled these partners to better connect students with services, and taken the burden off teachers and law enforcement to serve all the needs of the community.

The White Salmon Valley Education Foundation is a quiet force, working behind the scenes to empower youth in our community with access to equipment, tools and opportunities. Since 2006, the WSVEF has provided more than $4.6 million dollars to White Salmon’s schools through direct giving and grant writing efforts, and the WSVEF has granted over $745,000 to our schools from community-raised funds!
WSVEF wanted to highlight the impact these grants are making on our community - from support given to classrooms to adapt to COVID, to the collaborations between community partners to connect our community to services through K-LINK.
These are some of the wonderful people who are responsible for securing WSVEF funds to support students and services in our community -

When Covid hit home, the once-bustling Columbia High School woodshop fell quiet; shared tools and surfaces were said to pose a health risk.
Devoted teacher, Del Medenbach, won a White Salmon Valley Education Foundation grant to save the woodshop - each student received their own set of tools to call their own. See what students made when they ditched screens for sawdust!
This short film shares the amazing impact the WSVEF has had in responding to COVID in our community.

Soar through the narrow canyons of the Klickitat River where you will find a beautiful series of platforms resting on the cliff-sides over the raging water. Together with the team from EarthFix and Oregon Public Broadcasting we hear from Yakama Nation elders as they speak of how things once were and remember the importance of passing their traditional knowledge down through generations. A father and son give us an intimate glimpse into how the native form of fishing feeds families and honors stories from the past. Story Gorge cameras were granted exclusive access to the plat forms on, above, and under it this delightfully visual journey.
Story Gorge is based in the ancestral lands of the Wishram, Wasco and Yakama peoples. To celebrate National Native American Heritage Month we are sharing a story we produced with EarthFix and OPB about the local native fishing community in the gorge.
