CALL TO ACTION: Shame on Spain! Please call the Spanish Embassy in DC at 202-452-0100 and politely ask them to tell Pedro Sanchez that he needs to do the right thing and publicly CANCEL consideration of any military equipment purchases from Turkey - a nation which is threatening Greece with their Blue Homeland BS.
The government of Spain is looking at Turkey's KAAN fighter jet for consideration as a replacement purchase instead of the American F-35. This is being sold as a symbol of defense independence.
The reality is a lot messier. Production of this KAAN fighter plane can't even begin without U.S. Congressional approval for the F110 engine. Turkey's own engine won't be ready until 2032 at the earliest, and that's the optimistic timeline.
And after all that? The UK and EU still hold veto power over exports once the indigenous engine is integrated.
Turkey spent years building a fighter jet to escape Western leverage. It built one that runs on Western leverage.
This is a call to action for our to take the time to make the brief call. Be polite but firm in asking that your call be registered as an official complaint against egregious behavior of Spain against NATO ally and EU member Greece.
You can follow up with your local legislator to leave the message for US lawmakers to ensure that the F110 engine is never provided to Turkey until they cease and desist threatening Greece and end the illegal occupation of Cyprus.
