Severe weather will be possible across much of Arkansas today as a very powerful storm system sweeps across the area. There will be a strong cap in place over Arkansas this afternoon which may limit the number of storms that are able to develop. However, any storms that do manage to form will likely be strong and capable of producing large hail, damaging straight-line winds, and strong tornadoes. The greatest potential for tornadoes will be across east and northeast Arkansas during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Be sure to pay close attention to the weather today and take shelter immediately if a warning is issued for your area. Stay safe!

Conditions will be most favorable for tornadoes across south and southeast Arkansas during the late morning and early afternoon hours, but the entire state will have the potential to see severe weather hazards through Tuesday evening. Pay close attention to the weather on Tuesday and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued for your area. Stay safe!

It is looking increasingly likely that much of the state could see impactful winter weather this week as a strong arctic system moves across the region. Moderate to heavy snowfall will be most likely across northern Arkansas, with decreasing snowfall amounts expected along the I-40 corridor. Areas south of I-40 will likely see a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow, but ice and snowfall accumulations will be highly sensitive to the exact track of the storm system. Travel impacts are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, and some power outages may be possible as well. In addition, temperatures will be dangerously cold during the midweek, and wind chills may fall below 0 for much of Arkansas by Thursday morning. Stay safe!

A very active pattern will bring multiple rounds of precipitation to the state this week, and some locations could even see impactful winter weather. At the moment, freezing rain appears likely across parts of north and north-central Arkansas on Tuesday and Wednesday, with ice accruals of 0.25 – 0.50 inches possible. This could lead to hazardous travel conditions, power outages, and tree damage where the heaviest freezing rain occurs. The rest of the state will have to deal with cold, heavy rain through much of the period, and some locations could pick up 3 to 4 inches of rainfall by the weekend. Stay weather aware!

The cold weather will persist this week with below normal temperatures forecast through most of the period. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 20s and low 30s through Wednesday, and overnight lows could fall into the single digits across northern parts of the state. A slow warming trend will develop during the second half of the workweek, and temperatures will finally return to the 40s and 50s by the weekend.

This week will be a bit warmer than the last, with afternoon highs forecast to reach the mid 50s by Thursday. Skies will be clear through most of the week, but a storm system will bring rain chances to the area on Friday. Rainfall amounts will generally be light with this system, and most of the state will see less than an inch of (liquid) precipitation through the end of the week. A strong arctic cold front will clear out any remaining precipitation on Saturday, and below average temperatures will return to close out the forecast period.

We will see a dramatic change in the weather this week as a deep arctic airmass settles over the region. Temperatures will be well below average, with afternoon highs near or slightly above the freezing mark each day. Overnight lows will be in the teens and 20s through the period, and windchills could drop near 0 for much of the state. While it’s still several days out, medium-range forecast models are in good agreement that we could see some impactful snowfall across much of Arkansas late Thursday and into Friday. This will of course need to be monitored over the coming days, so stay weather aware!

After a very wet Christmas week, it looks like the final days of 2024 will be sunny and dry with afternoon temperatures in the 50s and 60s. A cold front on New Year’s Eve will usher in a much cooler air mass to start off 2025, and the first few days of the new year will see temperatures near average in the upper 40s. Overnight lows will be in the 20s and 30s through the period, and rain chances should be nonexistent until late in the weekend. Have a happy New Year!
