5/2/26 We AR Hikers met up to hike from Richland Creek campground to Richland Creek Falls and Twin Falls. This hike has many water crossings, some that are thigh and waist deep. While the hike is challenging at times, it’s so worth it. It’s a top 5 hike for me. The trail follows the creek the entire time and the views are breathtaking. The rock formations you walk on are one of my favorite parts. It’s something I feel would be found in the UK in some fantasy world. The amount of fossils we found would make anyone excited. Probably the best day of hiking I’ve had this year.

We finally got some rain in what felt like a never ending drought here in Arkansas. I went to the Richland Creek Wilderness Area to Falling Water Falls and Fuzzy Butt Falls, my favorite waterfall in all of Arkansas, and I finally took Glen to see it. This grotto makes me feel like I’m walking into a mythical scene from Lord of the Rings every single time, and spring is the best time to see it in all its glory. The Dogwoods are also in full bloom as well. I also got to meet some people in person for the first time as they were hiking the trail as well: Gez of and Mike and Christy of . A great way to spend this Easter Sunday.

Spring and summer are my favorite sunset viewing seasons, and Arkansas has some pretty spectacular places to watch one that isn’t from a parking lot.

The night before my birthday, I organized a sunset hike to summit Pinnacle Mountain with We AR Hikers. The sunset was beautiful, the company wonderful, but the hike was brutal for me this time. For the last 1.5-2 years I’ve really struggled with a lot of elevation on hikes. I thought it was just being out of shape, but on this hike I experiences a worse version of my struggles by having my first asthma attack (probably not the first but one that really made me connect the dots). I almost did not make it to the top but pushed on with the little bit that was left because someone in our group for sure had an inhaler that I used. Between the cardio and allergies, I could not breathe well and started hyperventilating. I now have an appt at the end of next month with an asthma specialist. Yay for me. On the flip side, the sunset was so good because it was cloudy most of the today, and I got to see people I haven’t seen in so long which made my heart smile. As always, listen to your body when you are hiking. Know your limits.

Last on my trip to Mountain View last weekend, I stopped at Blanchard Springs Falls. It’s a special place for me. Not only is this waterfall spring fed that runs all year, but the original bridge on this trail was designed by my grandpa who worked for the U.S. Forest Service for over 30 years. He also helped in establishing the trail here and with Blanchard Caverns public opening. I am so excited this will soon be a state park in Arkansas. I cannot wait to see the positive changes they make to this gem of a location in the Ozarks.
