Where’s Jun?!
If you’ve been following us on our other social media, you know I have a border collie, Juniper, in addition to my sled dog Balto.
Juniper did not come to Alaska with us for a few reasons:
1. He would have to live on the remote glacier 24/7, meaning he’d be separated from me during my weekends.
2. He would have to live *outside*, on the glacier - 24/7. There is no indoor structure aside from minimal crew housing, just big enough for beds.
3. He would have to fly in cargo. Being a nervous dog already, this would not be ideal for him.
4. Non-sled dogs are not allowed, anyway.
Juniper has been staying with a trusted friend back home in Michigan, and he’s having an absolute blast playing with new dog friends and cuddling with new human friends.
Don’t get me wrong, though - I’m counting down the days until I can hold him again. Juniper is my heart dog, my first dog, and it’s so hard to be away.
