𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄:
On Friday, August 22, 2025, the 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, with assistance from several parish agencies, conducted a D.W.I. checkpoint within the town limits of Berwick.
During the 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭, 𝟐𝟗𝟎 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝. As a result, several individuals were arrested, with two additional subjects issued citations.
Before the checkpoint concluded, one vehicle fled the checkpoint area and refused to stop for officers. A pursuit was initiated, involving multiple agencies across multiple jurisdictions. The driver was later identified as George Lane Torres 34 of Bayou Vista who was apprehended later in the morning by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office. Torres is being held in the 𝐒𝐭. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐄𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 on the following charges:
