Holy s**t that’s pretty narley! 85 degree ocean temps is unheard of!

The ocean off Baja has never been this warm.

85 degrees on Monday, in water that should be 70 this time of year.

45 years of satellite records. The old record was 81.

That water is why Los Angeles felt like 108 on Wednesday. Warm ocean, more humidity, and Marie pulled it all north.

It was still 84 on Wednesday, the latest reading.

We are watching it.

Awful

I have good news & bad news, Arkansas…

Bad news - this heat wave is going to get worse, especially as we roll into next week.

I posted about this a couple of days ago, this is the latest. 

The heat dome we’ve been plagued with will strengthen over the region next week (see model below).

This will crank the heat up even more.

Several 100°+ days are likely from
this weekend through around the 12th.

Believe it or not, many locations have avoided 100° the last 3-4 days. 

Good news - there is some signal for relief around the 12th or 13th, give or take a few days.

The middle of the month looks better for us. 

No, it will not turn cold, but we will be closer to normal, which will feel amazing given where we’ve been.

90° might feel like an arctic blast.

I’m hopeful the next 10 days or so is the last true summer heat wave for 2026.

That doesn’t mean we won’t experience hot weather, but it won’t be 100+ for 7-10 days straight.

We are almost there guys.

El Niño UPDATE! Looking at everything right now 2026 is acting a lot like the very strong El Niño year of Fall 1998. The heatwave ended the end of the first week of September in 1998 and then the powerful drought got HAMMERED in late September, October and November. Folks just look at the tropical Pacific right now. This will eventually affect us in a big way. Mike 9.2.26

The scenes out of Nepal today are hard to believe! 🚨

At about 9am local time on August 26th, a massive wall of water, mud, and debris came down the river seen here, wiping out anything in its way.

Initially an earthquake was sited as the cause but now it appears that a huge landslide in the mountains fell into a large lake/glacier causing the water to be displaced and sent down the river.

Last known count is more than 1,000 people are missed and feared to have been killed. Some of the videos on social media are some of the scariest I’ve ever seen!
