My son was remarrying after losing his wife. His fiancée didn't invite his 5-year-old son to the wedding—but I brought my grandson anyway. I just wanted one photo of him with his father.

But the bride refused. "No," she said flatly. "Absolutely not. I don't want him in these photos."

"Just one," I said. "Just him and Matthew."

"He's not my child!" she said sharply. Loud enough for the bridesmaids to glance over. "I don't want him in any photos. Please take him away!"

I pulled her aside and whispered, "What do you mean not yours? Wendy, he's Matthew's son, and you're his wife now. You have to accept the child!"

"No, I don't!" Wendy snapped. "We agreed it would be just the two of us. I DON'T NEED THE BOY. GOT IT?"

My stepdad Mark died three weeks ago (sudden heart attack at 56). He never called me his daughter, never said "I love you." I can count on one hand how many times he hugged me. I was Mom's daughter from her first marriage, so I got it. When I was five, Mom married Mark, and a year later, my stepsister Ava was born. She was his princess. He lit up every time she walked into a room.

His death hit me harder than I expected. I realized I'd always hoped for something more. A bond. Just once, to hear him say, "I love you, daughter."

Then came THE WILL.

We gathered in his lawyer's office: me, Mom, Ava, and a few extended relatives. I expected nothing. Maybe a token. Maybe nothing at all.

The lawyer opened the envelope.

"To Ava and my wife, Marie — I leave $5,000 each."

Silence.

Ava's jaw dropped. Mom gasped like she'd been punched.

"And to my stepdaughter, Lucy — I leave the rest of my estate, valued at approximately $640,000, including the house, savings, and investments."

The air left the room.

My mom stared ahead, blinking. Then she whispered:

"So HE KNEW."

She stood up, grabbed Ava by the arm, and walked out without another word.

I didn't move. I was frozen and confused. WHY ME?

Then the lawyer handed me a second envelope.

"He left you a letter."

I wanted to surprise my husband with dinner, so I found a new recipe: one-pot roast chicken with orzo. I ordered all the ingredients online, picked them up before lunch, set the table with candles. The kitchen smelled amazing. It was supposed to be a small, sweet surprise after a long week.

He got home just as I was lighting the candles. I heard him walk into the kitchen and smiled to myself, waiting for the reaction, something like a "WOW," or a kiss.

Instead, I heard the sound of the TRASH CAN LID swinging open.

I rushed in and saw him scraping the chicken into the garbage!

I just stood there, staring at him like he'd lost his mind. "What are you doing?!"

He didn't even flinch. Just calmly wiped his hands, walked to the couch, turned on the TV, and said, "You'll thank me later."

I thought it was a joke. It wasn't.

I followed him into the living room and demanded to tell me why he'd thrown out the dinner I just made.

And when he told me his reason?

That's when I knew I had to RUN and FILE FOR DIVORCE.
