This is how I’m taking on the new year & starting off a new decade even! Channeling intrinsic energy to embrace growth with joy, grace & gratitude.
I have never been one to put much pressure on creating & committing to a New year’s resolution. I find it can be overwhelming to start the year off with a list. I prefer to take the time between the holiday season & the new year as a period of “reflective cleansing.” I believe it is impossible to grow & accept change into your life if your are weighed down by the chains of the past, emotional baggage &/or background noise. Have you ever attempted to organize an overfilled closet with all the stuff in it? Or not leaving room in your luggage to be able to take home souvenirs? Yeah, me neither. I’ve learned over the years that you, yourself is the only person holding you back from the life you are trying to create.
A few years ago, I was stuck in a rut of perpetual funk I could not seem to figure out what was wrong. So I decided I would take the time to do a mental, emotional & physical cleansing. It helped me find the clarity I was searching for & cultivate the life I wanted for myself. Trust me! I don’t have it all figured out but this has been working for me as I continue to grow with the flow.
Let me explain & share some of the things I do as part of my year end ritual.
+ First & foremost, I count my blessings. This sounds cliche but in the midst of the chaos of life in general you forget to step back, *breathe* & be thankful for all the things. More often that not, I FORGET that the things I have or where I am today is exactly what I prayed for in the past.
+ I take notes or more like a “brain dump” of all the mentally/emotionally draining things. Things I need to let go of that is out of my control. Set myself free from the weight of the thoughts that have become heavy on my heart & mind over the last year.
+ Reflect & reinforce healthy boundaries I have created in order to put my overall wellbeing first and foremost before I can serve others.
+ Physical cleansing of my surrounding to cultivate a nurturing and positive space. My husband & I gradually tackle a section of the house to declutter, clear out & organize. We donate the material things that no longer serve us in the hope it sparks joy for the next person to cherish.
The time I take to perform this ritual always leaves me feeling invigorated & renewed to start off the year. I am grateful & excited to take on another 365 day journey around the sun. Here’s to a new year full off possibilities and growth.
If you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to tune in to my Ted talk!
